Favorite to win by as much as 22.5 points on some betting sites, the Irish decided to give a double treat to their fans today. They dedicated their first half to the 2007 season and the 4th quarter to the promises of 2008.
In reality, it should have been easier against a decimated defensive line that conceded on average 40 pounds to the Irish front 4. San Diego's offense, led by quarterback Ryan Lindley diffused the excitement that was to be provided by the new GTech blitzing schemes brought in the offseason to ND by from GTech's defense coordinator Jon Tenuta was picked up most of the times and for a weak team, they brought the blitzing approach to a point where it was pretty useless in the first half.
The truth is, that the ND defense and special units played an excellent game. They actually played the whole game. It seemed as if the offense just showed up in the 4th quarter. Clausen and Co. executed plays faster, built great momentum and ripped apart the SDSU defense. At one point, after 2 drives that brought consecutives touchdowns, Jimmy Clausen was showing 11 passes completed in 12 attempts.
I did predict that the Irish would win this game. The highlight reel will show that Gordon Tate is becoming quite the receiver, that the back situation is actually NOT a situation with the work being shared by Armando Allen(16 for 65 yards) and Robert Hughes with 17 rushes for 54 yards.
Sergio Brown with 2 deflections and one blocked kick showed he was quite a versatile player and one that the Irish will learn to count on.
IF the Irish can stop the turnovers(4 today) and play a full game, I will stick with my prediction and still give them the game against the Wolverines next week.

Mike seriously now, are you kidding me? Do you understand how terrible SDSU is? Of course every team can improve and there is plenty of weeks ahead for Notre Dame to become a respectable program, but today was not the day. That three and half hours plus today was right up there with the darkest days in the history of the Fighting Irish. Please do your homework first and research how bad of a team SDSU is. After what Notre Dame did today, how can anyone think they can a win a game against anyone other than the two or three worst teams in the nation? Jeez...

I hope you show up next week after the Michigan game, that's all I can offer right now. YES, god, SDSU is terrible, but last year's team doesn't win this game. Last year's team gives 4 sacks at a minimum. And last years Jimmy Clausen, doesn't throw these passes. All ND has done this year, was no different then the other program and play a pedestrian team to start their year. How did OSU fair today? How about Michigan? They didn't play BCS teams or even BCS level of play. It's a W and at this point, with a young team, the only thing that matters. Along with the fixes for next week.

yes the irish look pretty much the same for three quarters, but i do agree the special teams and defense look a lot better and the offense did get going in the fourth now lets see if they can carry it over into this game.I also say clausen made throws saturday that he did not or couldnt make last year.but for me the number 1 thing to watch will be irish offensive line against a bigger and faster michigan defensive line and if they can run the ball and protect clausen if not it will be a very long day and year for the irish
