Rookie quarterback Joe Flacco was Joe Cool as he led the Baltimore Ravens to a 1-0 start with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. I liked him since draft day but didn't think he'd be ready to take over the team from Week One. Of course, the Ravens didn't have any other choice but so far, it seems like a blessing in disguise. Granted, Cincinnati wasn't really on top of its game on either side of the ball (CP: what happened yo? you get distracted by the sneeze guard on your facemask?) but the Ravens looked like a completely different team than they did during the preseason. Regardless, it was a great way to start the season (the black pants were also a good idea) and it gives them something fairly solid to build on.
Thoughts (fannation's won't let me bullet them, sorry)
The Ravens could've won by a lot more if they could've caught a lot more of Flacco's passes. How many times did a receiver drop the ball? Bet Mama Flacco could tell us. Bet Mama Flacco could've beat some of them down if her baby boy lost game one.
Love that Flacco tried to throw some blocks. And that he was so utterly poised (like I said, "Joe Cool").
Anyone else laugh hysterically when the Ravens (didn't catch who it was) looked like he was going to sack CP and sort of lunged right by him, coming up empty? And then think it was hilarious that he fell down on his own anyway?
The Bengals missed a lot of tackles and the Ravens did some pretty awesome blocking (except that block in the arm back) and just avoiding. Joe Boy even got a TD on the ground.
The Ravens did a way better job than the Bengals of protecting the QB, which partially explains how Flacco started his career with a great game and Palmer pretty much looked awful. Joe remained on his feet after far more of his throws than CP.
