So I went to bed thinking I had this all figured out. But I couldn't sleep because I wasn't sure how the Pau for Shawn and Leandro aspect of the trade (essentially) would be received by the Phoenicians. You know how it is. You start thinking about something, the gears start grinding and lo and behold you wake up as if you've be out drinking all night but you're really only tired (as compared to tired AND hungover). So here's what I came up with. The three team mentioned before (Celtics, Suns and Grizzlies) are joined by the Bulls.
Instead of Pau going to the Suns, he goes to the Bulls, with the Suns getting Tyrus Thomas and Chris Duhon in return (there would have to be some additional kickers in there to make the trade work (Bulls would need to lose about $1 million, the Celts about $280k and the Grizz about $24k). Additional players involved to make it work (not including players need to make up the cap numbers work).
This trade works much better for me and hopefully for the Phoneicians - Tyrus, Duhon, and Rando for Shawn, Marcus Banks, and Leandro (this is the one that hurts the most but Duhon and Rando help, especially with maintaining pace and keep Nash fresh). I can now catch up some sleep until the next conference call. Just kidding boss.
There would still nee to be some tinkering.
PHX - I think that Grant Hill would be a PERFECT fit in PHX (can't say that I came up with that one - I'd like to give credit to the author but have totally forgotten. Sorry, I tried.). PHX would still need to get someone to play a little center to keep Amare happy and fresh (hello #29 pick or more likely a veteran who just wants one o' dem rangs...)
Bulls - Da Bulls get there low post scorer in Pau, and then keep their #9 whom they should use on Julian Wright. I don't care about anything else, this guy will be a monster in a few years. He also has the benefit of being: a big SF, has a high basketball IQ, and is versatile. Do you think Skiles might like him!!!? Some of the losses hurt but...another guard to replace Duhon and Griffin (Big and defensive-minded would be good) although Allan Ray MAY help (but still a small guard).
Celts - see below (6/26).
Grizz - see below (6/26), essentially some hope and a variety of assets of differing value.
Let me know what you think folks, especially DaBulls fans.
To:
Suns: Viktor Khryapa
Bulls: Allan Ray
Grizzlies: Eric Piatkowski, Adrian Griffin
Celtics: None
Now the teams look like:
Memphis:
Now have: (1= Delonte, 2= Mike M, 3= Rudy , 4= Hakim (until Yi gets it), 5= Kendrick Perkins or Theo)
Bench: #4, Polish Rifle, (Theo (cap savings), Leon (PF to help Hakim), Tony Allen (worth the injury risk), Kyle Lowery, Stromile, Adrian Griffin, Viktor Khryapa, #24
BOSTON:
Now have: 1= Leandro, 2= Paul P, 3= Shawn Marion, 4= Al Jeff, 5= Kandi Man - this hurts when they have to play a traditional set but they would most likely go smallball and push with Al Jeff (C), Shawn (PF), and Gerald (SF)...or take Yannick. Hmmm)
Bench: (Corey, Yannick or Yi), Gerald Greene, Ryan Gomes, Wally (more trade bait for some size?)
PHOENIX:
Now have: 1= nash 2= Raja, 3= Boris, 4= Tyrus, 5= Amare
Bench: #29, Rajon (backup to Nash - defensive division), Chris Duhon, SeaBass (backup to Nash - offensive division (his game is offensively bad) BUT he might get a good run playing WITH Nash, Jalen, Kurt T (darn, I thought the whole team might be identifiable by first names), James Jones.
CHICAGO:
Now have: 1= Kirch 2= Ben, 3= Luol, 4= Pau, 5= Ben
Bench: #9, Thabo, PJ (resign), Nocioni (resign), Allan Ray

Hello NBA Fans. First installment of the TheCounselor's blog. Just playing with some crazy NBA trade/draft scenarios. This one deals with the Celts, Grizz and Suns. I'll start with the Why followed the playas (or playa impersonatas in some cases like Sebass - who I think could really THRIVE with this deal). Let me know what you folks think. I am going to assume you know the basics of the trade rules and the value of expiring contracts etc...I am also not going to get into the Why Not. There's enough NBA GM's who are pessimists. This is for fun...
The Why
MEMPHIS: Keeps #4 pick (Yi or Yannick to replace Pau or Conley (nah after Delonte arrives) - really would like Horford but Yi or Yannick soften the blow of losing Pau. Get Delonte PG to help Kyle Lowery (#1 in '06), Kendrick at C, Gain some cap flexibility, at least pick #24 from Phoenix.
Now have: (1= Delonte, 2= Mike M, 3= Rudy , 4= Hakim (until Yi gets it), 5= Kendrick Perkins or Theo)
Bench: (Theo (cap savings), Leon (PF to help Hakim), Tony Allen (worth the injury risk), Kyle Lowery, Stromile, #24
BOSTON: Keep #5 Pick (Corey Brew, Noah, Yi (if they're lucky they can trade with a team who wants either (Warriors if Yi? Pietrus and #18? Chitown? #9 and Noccioni?) Bye bye Brian S...
Now have: (1= Leandro, 2= Paul P, 3= Shawn Marion, 4= Al Jeff, 5= Kandi Man - this hurts when they have to play a traditional set but they would most likely go smallball and push with Al Jeff (C), Shawn (PF), and Gerald (SF)...or take Yannick. Hmmm)
Bench: (Corey, Yannick or Yi), Gerald Greene, Ryan Gomes, Allan Ray, Wally (more trade bait for some size?)
PHOENIX: keep later picks for Int'l players who don't go on payroll or can be used for trade. No more alpha dog issue b/t Amare (should never have considered trading him) and Shawn, Get Pau who can help with opposing C's (Amare to PF when Suns go "Big") and who is getting paid less than Shawn (Sign Grant Hill?), Rajon (helps replace Leandro), The other 3 (SeaBass, Damon, and Brian - filler), Statring Team can all go by single names (who else is Nash?)
Now have: (1= The Canadian MVP - Timmah shoulda won. DUH! 2= Raja, 3= Boris, 4= Amare, 5= Pau - this hurts but they would most likely go smallball and push.
Bench: Rajon (backup to Nash - defensive division), SeaBass (backup to Nash - offensive division (his game is offensively bad) BUT he might get a good run playing WITH Nash, Jalen, Kurt T (darn, I thought the whole team might be identifiable by first names), James Jones, Polish Rifle,
