2008 Midwest League Playoffs-The South Bend Silver Hawks defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 3-2 to eliminate them from 2008 playoff race, and end thier chances of winning three straight Midwest League titles. Errors cost the 'Caps in the final game Saturday night, as two of the Hawks three runs were unearned. The Whitecaps also left two men on base in the bottom of the ninth. Second baseman Justin Henry stood out in this series, hitting over .500.

Whitecaps Extend PDC with Tigers-The West Michigan Whitecaps have extended their Player Development Contract with the Detroit Tigers though 2014. The 'Caps have been the Tigers Class-A affilate of the Midwest League since 1997. The deal has worked out well in West Michigan, with the 'Caps winning four out of it's five MWL Championships during it's Detroit affiliaction. Some notable players to come though West Michigan are Brandon Inge, Joel Zumaya, Robert Fick, Matt Joyce, Ryan Rayburn, and Cameon Maybin. Former World Campion Tiger Tom Brookens also managed the 'Caps to the 2007 title. Currant Tigers Kenny Rogers, Curtis Granderson, and Magglio Ordonez have had rehab stints in West Michigan as well.

Wells Eastern League Player of the Month-Former Whitecap and Grand Rapids native Casper Wells has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for August. He hit .345 with 10 doubles, four triples, 10 home-runs, 27 RBI's, and 34 runs scored. He also had a .430 on-base percentage and .782 slugging percentage in 28 games. Wells joined the AA Erie Seawolves on June 6th after being promoted from Class-A West Michigan, where he was selected as a mid-season All-Star.
