VeloNews is reporting that Lance Armstrong will make a comeback in 2009 to race the Tour de France and a handful of other events.

This year Armstrong raced a 100 mile Mountain Bike Race called the Leadville 100 and he has reamined in pretty good shape by running marathons and participating in other cycling rides.

I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to race in the Tour of California in February.  He is a competative person, and after Mario Cipolini raced in California this year maybe that got Armstrong thinking it would be fun to do, and it wouldn't hurt to get some publisity for his sponsors and his LiveStrong foundation.

But actually racing in the Tour de France may be a little far fetched.  First of all Team Astana was banned from the Tour de France this year, and bringing Armstrong into the team may not exactly go over well with the Tour organizers who don't exactly like Armstrong.  Also Astana has Alberto Contador who is a fovorite to win the Tour again without added the Armstong circus to the team and all the media hype that it will cause.

Then again maybe with the increased testing that is going on he wants to show that he is clean and can win even with all the advanced testing that is going on now ala Dara Torres.

I just have a hard time beleiving he would comeback unless he though he could win, but then he has an pretty be ego, and not unlike other star athletes he may miss that feeling of winning
