Not a resounding "Hell Yeah!", following this game, but we got the W.
The game was a tale of 2 halves. The first half we got away with anything we wanted to do, with the exception of the running game. WMU stacked the box and limited our running ability completely, with only one notable exception of Lucky's TD run. That one run, plus a couple of Ganz scrambles were our running total for the first half. Not great.
Ganz looked great in the first half. He looked poised and picked apart the defense like he never let off from last season. Stellar looks and finding different receivers made WMU look pretty helpless against the pass. The second half he was throwing at ankles, over heads and even to the bad guys a couple of times. Thankfully there was Roy Helu, JR.
Once again I am on the Helu bandwagon for starter. The kid can flat out RUN! I can't think of a play that he took a loss on, (other than a bad snap that was dropped, and that may have been Lucky covering). Helu caught a couple of balls, (not in the same league with Lucky receiving yet), but looked sooooo much better running than Lucky that he needs to get more reps during game time.
How about Cody Glenn!! That guy had the game of his life!! 2.5 sacks, something like 18 tackles, 2 batted balls, taking out that receiver that got by Asante. Phenominal game! He should make the Big 12 player of the week easily.
Our D looked strong in the first half over all. Great pressure on the QB, good run stopping, etc. The second half was a completely different squad. Pass coverages were inadaquate, there were big run lanes opening up, they couldn't get to the QB. It seemed like they didn't get any rest during Half Time and came out tired.
I sound like I'm bashing the entire effort, but I actually enjoyed the game. Got completely shnockered on $2.50- 24 ounce cans of Bud's finest!
I'll give the game a B, simply because of the Points that we put on the board and the play of Cody Glenn. He really made the game watchable!
Feel free to slam me at will!!
