Okay, I know the last thing anyone wants is another blog on the "new look" FanNation, but here it is anyway.
I count myself in the masses that immediately hated it. I was having trouble navigating, but that's another story. I also signed the petition to go back to the old site. By the way folks, that's not going to happen.
After a few days on the site it does start to grow on you. Then I realized it wasn't so much the format that I hated, rather the things that were gone. I still see people who are doing TDs and those posting blogs and comments, so what's changed...only the way things are done.
Don't get me wrong, I think that the new site still has its flaws, so instead of everyone demanding the "old site" back, maybe a different approach is needed. Maybe we should just let the "powers-that-be" know what we want back and what doesn't really work for us. I came up with a few things I'd like to see fixed, changed, or brought back.
1- Change the white background - its blinding
2 - Make blogs private in those groups that don't want it public.
3 - A button to find users/groups
4 - Some polls in the groups overlap (Real Ladies, Real Sports)
5 - Let people know if they have fanmail without going into it.
6 - Put message boards back into the groups
7 - Bring back the community page
That's about it, in no particular order, except to mention that the format isn't the real problem....SI took away things that members used the most.
Please add your thoughts and hopefully we can get something done!!!!!!!!!

I think the TDs, Blogs, and groups and the most important, the format is really no a problem.

I tihnk the worst thing they've done is to groups. They've totally butchered them. Group activity has dropped off the table since the change. They really need to change the layout of groups because it looks all jumbled together. And removing the message boards was just dumb.

you see that empty Area in the right hand corner. They can put that box that used to be there With your TD link, Fanmail, groupmail, grou, blog, etc back. That ould make it so much easier to navigate FN.

Yeah, #6 I go along with. Bring back the OLD message boards, I say.
BTW, the mods now have a problem with ME because I dared to tell 'em to get rid of the "political" stuff on here (read: "Stop Obama Express") and concentrate on SPORTS. I told 'em what they could do with CCC, Larry B, et.al.--and I don't think they'll appreciate it, either.

I agree with you in general, smoothsandy.
One of the other main reasons for the discontent is not about the redesign, but rather the fact that instead of addressing some of the key concerns of frequent users, a format redesign was given priority instead.
The lack of visible, consistent, and active moderation on the site to help address user-needs and help keep things running smoothly is what is disappointing many of the disgruntled members.

Agree w/ Yoda good blog the new format is not as bad as i thought it was although I like the old one better the community page gone and the fact that their are Professional Blogs on the front page are two very disapointing additions.

to elaborate on my previous comment, here are some of the things i'd expect to see happen over the next week on this site...
1. Make blogs private in those groups that don't want it public.
2. Let people know if they have fanmail without going into it. (it was pulled out of that "more tools" dropdown this week, only makes sense to next add the # of fanmails you have)
3, Put message boards back into the groups
4. Navigation within T&R to easily go from one story to the next.
5. Same for message board threads
