At the end of this season Georgia fans may be growling at UNLV. That's because last weeks UNLV victory over Arizona State faded the 'showdown' aspect of this week's Georgia ASU matchup. If the Sun Devils were undefeated and viewed as a true Pac 10 contender a Georgia victory would have given them an inside track to #2 if not a good shot at #1. They might prove something this week anyway, they need a solid victory over  a good team. A win over a great team would have served them better.

Wake Forest should beat Florida State this week if their rise as a football power has escaped their shadow as a college football doormat. Playing Florida State also means playing their reputation as a powerhouse that developed over the past few decades. The last couple of seasons seem to have proven legends ain't what they used to be. (See Michigan's losses to App State and Utah. etc...)

I think LSU will get a solid win over Auburn. Last year's game was low scoring and this time around looks to be the same kind of game. Especially considering AU's virtual stalemate against MSU last week. Auburns offense looks mediocre at this point and LSU seems capable.

Tennessee may have had a temporary shutdown against UCLA which makes them a good candidate to upset Florida. I doubt it though. If the Gators play well I don't see the Vols having much of a chance. Home field should keep the score closer for Tennessee.

Oregon limps into the week facing Boise State. This is a good statement game for the Broncos. Nothing like a battered 'big 6 conference' team to help you get some recognition.  I see this as one of this week's upsets.

I have a hunch Colorado might knock off West Virginia this week too. The Buffaloes are one of those teams that can play a great game after looking average or even poor. They only slipped past Eastern Washington last weekend so you'd think WVU would be confident for this game. I think they might end up being overconfident. The game is in Boulder and it's the first of 4 straight games for the Buffs against top 25 teams. They'll want this one badly.

Utah and Fresno St. have hurdles to clear this week against Air Force and Toledo respectively. And although they should win the games they had better 'respect' those opponents.

Final thought, lets hope Michigan State and Notre Dame is another 'barn burner'. These two have had some greatly entertaining games the last few years.   MSU is the toughest test yet for ND. Another proving ground for them although the Spartans probably aren't a top caliber team either.

That's it for now, happy grid ironing....   Bones

Yes about UNLV win over ASU deflating a potential and likely win of UGA against ASU... (I didn't realize I was so fond of prepositions).
I have Georgia #2, even with sloppy win over S.C. and OU's dismantling of Washington. OU at #3.

But I don't see pollsters putting them back at 2, until the utterly demolish SunDevils.

I don't know much about Wake Forrest this year, but I did recently read an article about how it's time for Bobby to step down (and Paterno too) and reasons why they aren't doing so.

I have LSU winning by 8, but I'll route for Tuberville for sure.

UF can make some noise with a win. Tenn can too, obviously, but their loss to Cal (and by default Cal's subsequent loss to BYU) hurts.

Even though they're probably good kids, I will never route for Boise St. to win anything, ever.
Oh my hearts aches thinking about that game. ohhh, the pain.
I harbor things. I'm working on it.

For the same reason, I pretty much won't root for the Buffs either. How dare they make that field goal last year with no time left. I might root for them more easily than Boise St, though.

LSU might be ready to start making some racket in the SEC.

Georgia might be the 2nd best team in the country (even the best) but obviously they didn't do themselves any favors by playing weakly against So Carolina. Alabama looms shortly for them. Then they have a stretch at the end of October when they play LSU and Florida in a two week span. After that it's Kentucky and then Auburn. If they play well through that hell they're going to pick up some votes for sure.

I still think Florida is a quality team and with Tebow still at the helm they have a good all around weapon. Maybe I'm brainwashed by the love the SEC is getting these days as well.

As for Boise, my blood runs cold just typing the word, lol. If I were a witch doctor I'd curse their blue turf. ( And I even lived in Idaho for a while.) And the Buffs have been season spoilers forever for the Sooners. I only root for them against Texas, Nebraska, and my most hated teams... Notre Dame, USC and Miami.

I think UNLV beating ASU was extremely bad for the dawgs, because now it just adds to the expectations of us winning this game big. I think we will win, but its not going to be fashy for sure.As far as the Carolina game goes...they always play us tough. I don't understand it, but we can never get a quality win over them. I personally think the polls reflect were we should be. We have the talent to beat anybody, but we haven't proved we can yet. Until that happens, we can only expect to slip in the polls. The Alabama game will pretty much set the tempo of the season for us. But, we have to get through ASU first.

I've got UF beating UT. Not because of UF's offense, but because of UT's offense. There really was a good bit of hype around Crompton this offseason, but he hasn't impressed me yet. I think he's talented, just needs time to get a grip on the new offense. And you can always count on the running game of Tennessee. The running game will produce for UT, but not enough to beat the Gators.

LSU will handle buisness in the plains at Auburn. I think the war eagles are another team falling victim to a new offense. Tuberville always has his defense ready, but unfortunatly I think they are going to be on the field all night. LSU by 7

Georgia impressed me yesterday even knowing ASU isn't as good as I was expecting preseason. They looked fast and strong and inspired yesterday, hats off to them. If they're finally ready for the big time they'll show it against 'Bama next game. (They are next in line, right? Don't have the schedule open.)
