Due to most of my friends on FN leaving the site, the little free time I have because of school, homework, and football, and the new site that I don't have time to adjust to, I'm thinking that I'm just gonna go ahead and take some time off of the site.

Fannation use to be so fun, but since the amount of new members has increased and the amount of old faces that are leaving, fannation has become unfamiliar and has lost it's luster.

Use to be, this was a site in which you could come and fellowship with other fans and get to see the fans side of things, but now the blogs have been taken over by SI writers that don't know any more than we do, the comments have become more and more censored, and the fans have become radical to the point where you can't sit down and have a decent conversation.

The one part of this site that I truly loved because of the open mindness and knowledge of the members, Fannation's Greatest Football Fans is dying during College Football season.

So the reasons I'm leaving are

  • *Blogs are being dominated by the writers, making our fan blogs less read
  • *Old members are leaving and new more radical, less friendly ones are coming in
  • *The site that was once easy to get around in has been completely unorganized
  • *Comments have become too censored
  • *Sports Illustrated's cooperate  crap has spread to the site
  • *Fans are more close minded than ever and won't even talk to you like a normal person unless you agree with them on every single thing
  • *Throwdowns have become more about begging for votes and sucking up then actually arguing with people
  • *Instead of taking a loss like a man in Throwdowns, the loser sits and whines about how he argued better then you and should of won
  • *Fan blogs (my favorite feature) are harder to watch with out the main pages divided by sports
  • *SI staff blogs suck
  • *There are so many advertisements on the page, you can't tell what's what.
  • *The Truth and Rumor section has become stupid and uninteresting
  • *Most of my friends have left the site due to the new changes

Until atleast some of these are changed, I'm leaving.

To bad. This is a pretty cool place, I thought.

September 21, 2008  07:20 AM ET

I don't like the new format either. It is very hard to find what I'm looking for. I would like to see information on college football only not this other stuff mixed in. Why did they change this. And no we won't get used to it over time. Go back to the original format. Why did SI change it in the first place?

I agree I feel like leaving sometimes, and I am pretty angry. Anyway this is a stupid question, but who wrote this article. When I read it on the new format it never tells me who wrote it so, can u tell me who you are, please.

That's too bad man. Be sure and check in every now and then to see if it gets any better.

Unfortunately, you leaving is another nail in FGCFF's coffin.

September 21, 2008  10:50 PM ET

Dang - this was 1 of only 3 groups I bothered to check the blogs for...

FN was about dead before the format change. The format just provided a good time for people considering leaving, while the fewer friends took its toll on the rest.

We can talk about the format, newbies, head cases, moderators, TDs, etc. but in the end the real reason is...

...the novelty of FN wore off...

September 22, 2008  02:55 AM ET

Too bad.Being a bama fan,and not realllly having had much to cheer about until recently,I`ve sorta just discovered FN.I think it`s pretty cool though it does seem kinda hard to navigate.

September 22, 2008  08:16 AM ET

September 22, 2008  11:28 AM ET

I hope you come back, I'm staying, it took me a coupel days, bur Im gettin the hang of it. The message boards are cool addition. The core group of guys are still around, so I'll look forward to seeing you in the future!

Peace out !!!

You;ll be back. lol. Nobody likes a quitter.

Seriously though, if you let other people dictate your behavior your whole life, it's going to get tougher as you get older. Quit because you are bored or it's pointless, but don't blame it on other people. Yes, people can be complete tools, but you choose who you prefer to associate with online, and in person. You don't have a conversation with every one on street who wears a sports hat/shirt/jacket; you have to discriminate.

Best of luck to you in all you pursue.

Atleast someone had the balls to say this about fannation.....almost one year i been on fannation and it seems to be getting worse and worse.......The monitors don`t seem to care anymore and allow all sort of childish and hate mongering to so unnoticed.......

I wish you al the best.......... Hope when Fannation decides to be a growup place to share and enjoy sports you come back and share your throught and mature comments..........Until then the rest of us is stuck ina rumper room style of playschool Fan site where the age age of the posters are 15 years old......

Love and Peace
