If I didn't know who Armanti Edwards was before tonight, I know now. If America didn't know Rodney Landers' name before tonight...they know it now.

You know, it's a shame most of America didn't have the chance to watch the Appalachian State-James Madison game tonight. Because, you missed one hell of a game. And I can honestly say, this game really was a tale of two halves.

(The game just ended, and your final score...JMU 35, App State 32.)

Between these two QBs--Armanti Edwards for App State, Rodney Landers for JMU--you saw two young men who just might have a pro future ahead of them. It's just they won't have it playing QB, though. Both of these dudes can flat-out run...and I have to give props to Edwards for his upper-body strength. He's only a junior, but I can see him as a WR in the pros. (Rodney I see as a RB, should he get his shot at the pros...and, he's a senior, BTW.)

But I said this was a tale of two halves.

The 1st half was all App State (and Armanti Edwards). It was 21-0 at the half, and I was starting to think this just could be a blowout.

Then came the 2nd half kickoff to JMU...97 yards later, it's 21-7 App State. 2 minutes after that Rodney Landers runs it in from 67 yards out, and now it's 21-14. Then, 21 apiece. App State kicks a field goal, and they're up 24-21 early in the 4th quarter.

That's when JMU stepped it up a notch. You see, Rodney Landers not only can run...he can throw, too. It was a thing of beauty, the TD pass to make it 28-24, JMU. Rodney rolls right, and pitches left. App State took the bait by going right, and the go-ahead score occurs.

One final Landers run made it 35-24 with about 2 minutes to go in the game. Obviously, more than enough time for Armanti Edwards to march down the field, throw a TD pass, and run for a 2-point conversion to cut it to 35-32.

Two onside kicks later...yes, I said two; the first one didn't count because a JMU player had his foot inside the 40, and the refs called it offside...JMU recovers the second one, and the game ends some time later.

I gotta tell you, I was nervous over this. I figured JMU would make it close, anyway. But this truly was payback for losing the playoff game last year.

I'm sure this'll show up on "Sportscenter" tonight or tomorrow morning. Now, whether this translates into more members for this group or not...is anybody's guess. But I guess it DOES justify the name of this group (and this blog), don't it???
