Luck is a word i've been hearing around the Broncos a lot this season. First, off of the bad call by Ed Hochulli, and now because of a missed Martin Gramatica field goal.
So is it luck that Jay Cutler is number two in the league for passing yards, and number one in passing touchdowns?
Is it luck that in just TWO games, Marshall has enough yards to be the number two receiver in football?
Is it luck that D.J. Williams has the most tackles by any defender in the NFL?
Is it luck that the Broncos are 3-0? I argue that the answer is "no."
Maybe we should be 2-1, due to the poor call against San Diego. However, a bad call is a bad call and there's nothing funny about it but it is what it is. They sure didn't have a problem letting us score the touchdown, or the two point conversion. The Chargers let the Broncos light up the scoreboard the entire game before that one bad play, so I think luck is a lousy excuse.
Painfully, the word luck was used after the missed kick by Martin Gramatica. I disagree. Sure he should have made the kick, but before that the Broncos stopped them on 3rd and 1. Even if they made the field goal, with the way the Broncos offense has been playing, two minutes is plenty of time to get into field goal range for the win. Luck had nothing to do with the win over New Orleans, and little to do with our season thus far.
One thing is for sure: our defense needs help. One day the Broncos will have to rely on their defense instead of Cutler's arm and Marshall's hands.
However, I am proud to say that the Broncos are better by leaps and bounds this year than last. We're scoring points in the red zone (and even without having to get to the red zone), our special teams has stepped up, and everyone is firing on all cylinders.
For the haters out there, we are 3-0 for a reason, and luck has little to do with it. The Broncos are second in the league (in my opinion) to only the NFL's darling Cowboys, who are just as over-rated and star-struck as the Los Angeles Lakers. The teams are mirror images of one another: both have divas (Kobe and T.O.), both thrive on attention rather than success, and niether can win in the playoffs.
Sorry Romo there's a new sheriff in town. His name's Cutler and he's got a Marshall that'll put your deputy to shame.
