So Georgia plans to "BLACKOUT ‘BAMA," this according to Georgiadogs.com, the official site of everything Georgia football.
"I'm a style guy," cornerback Asher Allen said. "I like the black. I like how they offset the red helmets. The red jerseys are more traditional, but the black just gives us a little extra spice. I like it. I really do."
It will be just the third time in school history that black jerseys will be worn, which offers a strong signal from Coach Mark Richt as to the importance of this game.
Last year the Bulldogs had great success with a blackout vs. Auburn, but one can only assume the challenge this year will be much greater.
The ESPN's College Football GameDay will be on hand as the #3 Bulldogs host the #8 Crimson Tide.
In his weekly press conference, here is how Coach Richt summed things up:
"It's a very exciting week for us, no doubt," Richt said. "We are playing a great team - a top 10 team and one that is coached by one of the finest coaches in America. They are number one in the conference in rushing offense, number two in scoring offense, number three in scoring defense, number three in rushing defense, number three in total defense and number one in fourth down conversions. They have scored 64 points in the first quarter to zero. They have been tested; they just have whipped everybody so bad it didn't seem like they were. To play a top-10 team in Clemson and play Arkansas they way they did, they made it look like they weren't tested. They are a dominant team right now and a very confident team right now."
Without question, it is the biggest game of the young season for either team. The outcome of this game will have SEC and national title implications.
Georgia QB Matt Stafford will need to step up his game and prove his league best QB rating can hold up against a worthy opponent in the SEC. Georgia's defense is stingy, allowing only 46 yards per game - but Alabama is giving up just 55 yards per game.
John Parker Wilson is a good QB for Alabama but he is no Stafford - and with the production of Knowshon Moreno and A.J. Green to support him, Stafford gets our vote of confidence and wins the biggest game being played this weekend.
Moreno is a true Heisman candidate - and what's more, he is now acting like a team leader. Here is what he said after practice earlier this week: "From here on out, it's not going to be any easier, so we've really got to stay focused, work on these penalties and keep on making plays."
The mistake Georgia cannot afford to make is to look past Nick Saban. There is a reason this game is so important - and it has everything to do with how well Saban has his team playing after such a short period of time.
Win or lose, this is going to be some good SEC style football.
