Starting next season the Milwaukee Brewers prospects assigned to low A will only be about 100 miles fromt he big club. Tuesday the team annouced a development contract with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League. The Timber Rattlers are located in Appleton, WI and play their home games at Time Warner Cable Field. Wisconsin ended it's affiliation with the Mariners they've had since 1993.

The deal is expected to run until 2012 at least. The Brewers are familiar with the Midwest League, as they had the Beloit Snappers in their system until 2004. Beloit produced such players as Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun. Aparrently it has been rumored that Milwaukee wanted a team back in the MWL, and the Timber Rattlers are a perfect fit. They are already putting ticket packages together for the 2009 season.

The Brewers previous Class A team was in Charlston, WV, close to Milwaukee's high A and AA affiliates. This move should be a big boost to the Timber Rattlers attendance. They have one of the nicer stadiums in the league, that also hosts the Div. III College World Series.
