The Detroit Tigers made the playoffs!
Before you laugh, consider this: Detroit and Chicago (AL) are getting ready to take the field, one day after 28 other teams teams saw their respective regular seasons come to an end.
As of today, the only games left to play will determine who has the right to play in the World Series.
Today's Detroit-Chicago game (and, potentially, tomorrow's Minnesota-Chicago game) are both elimination games, similar to wild card games in the NFL.
So, as far as I am concerned, the playoffs start today, September 29.
If the White Sox manage to win in the next 3 hours, the playoffs continue tomorrow, as Chicago will host Minnesota in a play-in game on Tuesday to fight for the AL Central title).
With that, here is how I see the 2008 version of the MLB playoffs panning out:
AL Make-Up Series:
Chicago White Sox def. Detroit Tigers (UPDATE: Chicago wins, 8-2)
AL Central Elimination Round:
Chicago White Sox def. Minnesota Twins
AL Divisional Series:
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim def. Boston Red Sox, 3 games to 1
Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays def. Chicago White Sox, 3 games to 2
AL Championship Series:
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim def. Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays, 4 games to 1
NL Division Series:
Milwaukee Brewers def. Philadelphia Phillies, 3 games to 2
Los Angeles Dodgers def. Chicago Cubs, 3 games to 2
NL Championship Series
Los Angeles Dodgers def. Milwaukee Brewers, 4 games to 3
WORLD SERIES (aka Freeway Series)
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim def. Los Angeles Dodgers, 4 games to 1
Yep, the best team in the league versus the team with the worst record in the playoffs. A true Hollywood story. How fitting that the Hollywood sign will serve as a backdrop for at least two games.

The White Sox haven't won three games in a row since the first week of September. They won yesterday, if they win today that will be two . . . and then who pitches tomorrow? Give Buehrle credit for what he did yesterday, but geez, you think they got the arms to win three straight? I know the Twins swept them last week, and so you think, yeah, the odds are long that Minnesota could beat Chicago four straight . . . but you know what, I think the one you called right is that either way this won't matter, because it probably will be the Angels vs. Rays for the pennant.

That's my sentiment -- the Sox and Twins will have a hard time recovering in time for the Rays. It's really a question of who will pitch in the ALDS, and that's where the Sox (or Twins) would have a problem.

As is the case with predictions, I am off.
Here is how I see the ALCS & NLCS:
Tampa Bay defeats Boston, 4-3
Los Angeles defeats Philadelphia, 4-2
