One quarter of the season down so far and two coaches have already been fired (Kiffin and Linenhan). There are still four undefeated teams (none of which is New England) and four winless teams (none of which is Miami). This is a long season where anything can (and probably will) happen. Until then....

1. Buffalo Bills- record: 4-0 (rank last week (3): defeated Rams, 31-14)

This team keeps rolling along. They may not have the best roster in the league, but they are playing the best ball thus far.

2. New York Giants- record: 3-0 (rank last week (2): bye)

Coming off their bye week, the G-Men is now realizing that winning their division will be much more challenging than anticipated. Not only do they have to contend with the Cowboys and Eagles, but the Redskins are playing much better than expected, so far.

3. Tennessee Titans- record: 4-0 (rank last week (5): defeated Vikings, 30-17)

Is there a defense in the league that is playing better???

4. Pittsburgh Steelers- record: 3-1 (rank last week (7): defeated Ravens, 23-20)

After going 8 quarters without a touchdown of any kind, the Steelers scored two within 15 seconds during the third quarter. But that offensive line needs to block better!

5. Washington Redskins- record: 3-1 (rank last week (8): defeated Cowboys, 26-24)

Ok, maybe the NFC should be taking this team a little more seriously now. And fantasy football folks should be taking QB Jason Campbell a little more seriously, too.

6. Dallas Cowboys- record: 3-1 (rank last week (1): lost to Redskins, 24-26)

How many losses does it take for Terrell Owens to implode? I say one should do it!

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- record: 3-1 (rank last week (10): defeated Packers, 30-21)

Derrick Brooks is in his 14th season and is 35 years old, right? If that's true, how is it he can run around like he is the YOUNGEST guy on the field?

8. San Diego Chargers- record: 2-2 (rank last week (11): defeated Raiders, 28-18)

The Chargers has stopped the annual early season bleeding. Good thing to, because they may actually have a challenger to their divisional crown this year (Broncos).

9. Carolina Panthers- record: 3-1 (rank last week (15): defeated Falcons, 24-9)

Good divisional win, but I will have to wait until mid-season before I crown them playoff worthy.

10. Philadelphia Eagles- record: 2-2 (rank last week (4): lost to Bears, 20-24)

This team just does not look quite right without Brian Westbrook.

11. Jacksonville Jaguars- record: 2-2 (rank last week (18): defeated Texans, 30-27 OT)

Gutsy performance by David Garrard late in the game. I have them this high instead of the Saints because they beat the Colts (and it pains me to say that), and with the Saints' pass-catchers dropping like flies, the Jags are the stronger team.

12. Indianapolis Colts- record: 1-2 (rank last week (12): bye)

This may be a high ranking for a ‘1-2' team, but who in their right mind honestly believe the Colts will not end this season with double-digit wins?

13. New England Patriots- record: 2-1 (rank last week (13): bye)

It will be interesting to see if Randy Moss has officially ‘checked-out'. If they lose to the 49ers, they will free fall like no other team has on this power ranking.

14. New Orleans Saints- record: 2-2 (rank last week (17): defeated 49ers 31-17)

It is amazing how it seems every week the Saints lose a receiver, yet Drew Brees continues to lead the league in passing yards. By the way, welcome back Deuce!

15. Denver Broncos- record: 3-1 (rank last week (6): lost to Chiefs, 19-33)

An embarrassing loss to a bottom-feeder team. Can you say KARMA???

16. Green Bay Packers- record: 2-2 (rank last week (9): lost to Buccaneers 21-30)

Second straight loss after a promising beginning. But I swear if I watch one more Packers' game that ‘Brett Farve' is mentioned throughout the ENTIRE game, I will lose my mind! What's done is done, GET OVER IT!!!

17. New York Jets- record: 2-2 (rank last week (21): defeated Cardinals, 56-35)

Speaking of which, WHAT A PERFORMANCE! Farve had Arena League stats against an NFL defense (well, sort of). He does realize that he is a first ballot Hall of Famer and does not need anymore memorable games to make his case, right?

18. Chicago Bears- record: 2-2 (rank last week (24): defeated Bears, 24-20)

Let's see if I have this correct: defeated the Colts and Eagles, lose to the Panthers and Bucs. Nope, doesn't make sense on paper, either.

19. Baltimore Ravens- record: 2-1 (rank last week (14): lost to Steelers, 20-23)

This team probably won't make the playoffs this year, but they will be fun to watch. Ray Lewis is another linebacker who is defying age, and that Flacco kid is something else. I know he remembered he was a rookie during the second half against the Steelers, but that McNabb-like scramble to his left, then back to his right (keeping the play alive for over 12 seconds) and throwing a dart to Derrick Mason was classic!

20. Seattle Seahawks- record: 1-2 (rank last week (20): bye)

Well, we will soon find out if they will NOW play with some type of urgency after the bye week.

21. Arizona Cardinals- record: 2-2 (rank last week (16): lost to Jets, 35-56)

I'm assuming that the Cardinals' defense was in such awe in the presence of Brett Favre that they forgot to play defense. Or maybe they just wanted to be a part of history. Or maybe they just plain suck.

22. Miami Dolphins- record 1-2 (rank last week (22): bye)

I wonder what new gadget plays this team has cooked up over their bye week?

23. Cleveland Browns- record: 1-3 (rank last week (27): defeated Bengals, 20-12)

Someone had to win this game, I guess. Not much to say about this team except at least they are not winless anymore.

24. Minnesota Vikings- record: 1-3 (rank last week (19): lost to Titans, 17-30)

Who do you suppose is to blame for THIS loss?

25. Kansas City Chiefs- record 1-3 (rank last week (30): defeated Broncos, (33-19)

A convincing win over a much more talented opponent. And you have to love it when your star player demands the ball, gets the ball, and has a field day (T.O., take notice)!

26. San Francisco 49ers- record 2-2 (rank last week (23): lost to Saints, 17-31)

Something needs to be done here. J.T. O'Sullivan looks like he could end up solving the 49ers' quarterback woes but as long as he is on his back half the game, how will anyone know? Frank Gore averaged over 5 yards a carry, but couldn't get enough carries (again).

27. Atlanta Falcons- record 2-2 (rank last week (25): lost to Panthers, 9-24)

I know they are 2-2, but that has to be considered a great start for this team. I have a feeling they will be competitive next week against the struggling Packers.

28. Houston Texans- record 0-3 (rank last week (29): lost to Jags, 27-30 OT)

How do a team that lose move UP in the rankings? Even though the Texans managed to snatch defeat out of the mouth of victory, they did play well overall against a solid divisional team. Seriously though, the teams below them are PATHETIC!

29. Oakland Raiders- record: 1-3 (rank last week (28): lost to Chargers, 18-28)

I wondered how many people (outside of the bay area, of course) actually thought L.T. was going to be shut down the entire game. The only good thing that came out of this game is that Lane Kiffin was finally put out his misery on Tuesday. Now to await Al Davis NEXT victim.

30. Cincinnati Bengals- record 0-4 (rank last week (26): lost to Browns, 12-20)

Their game against the Browns was the sloppiest game I've seen in a while. In their defense, they were playing a little used backup quarterback. But truth be told, they probably would have lost anyways.

31. St. Louis Rams- record 0-4 (rank last week (31): lost to Bills, 14-31)

Another game, another blowout, another coach fired. I never thought much of Linenhan, anyways. He wasn't even the best head coaching prospect on his staff.

32. Detroit Lions- record 0-3 (rank last week (32): bye win)

Yeah, I know I put ‘bye win'. They FINALLY fired Matt Millen. That is officially a WIN for the fans of the Detroit Lions!!!

Five notes from week four:

1. T.O., T.O., when will you learn? You whine (and I do not like using that word concerning adults, but it applies here) about needing the ball more, but you had the ball (or was the intended receiver) on nearly one-third of Dallas' offensive plays. If anyone should be protesting about not seeing the ball enough, it is MARION BARBER!!! Only eight carries??? What was Jason Garrett thinking??? As for T.O., GET OVER YOURSELF!!!

2. Congratulations to the Chiefs on their first win. It's one thing to say ‘we play to win the game'. Giving the ball to Larry Johnson 25+ times during the game will greatly increase the chance for success. I do not mind a person asking for the ball more when he is NOT getting the ball like he should. There IS a difference.

3. This is a standing ovation to the three young quarterback stars of the future: Trent Edwards, Jason Campbell and Joe Flacco. In a league hurting for solid quarterbacks (and recycling washed-out ones), these three has shown that all is not lost once Manning, Brady and Farve retires. Keep up the good work!

4.  Does anyone think that Jim Haslett will stay as the Rams coach? He does have head coaching experience and might be able to do something with a team that has more talent than is being displayed.

5. This is a personnel note, but I hope that the Colts' offense is back in sync after the bye week, because I am not used to seeing the Colts with a losing record! It is really bumming me out!
