Fortunate for me, I didn't watch the train wreck that was the press conference yesterday in Oakland announcing Lane Kiffin's firing. But, I've seen enough of the highlight reel today to confirm my suspicions concerning the Raiders' imminent future.
Which is to say, there is no future right now.
I live on the wrong coast to be in tune with the deal out there. But I'm 100% convinced that even if Al Davis somehow could coax John Madden out of the broadcast booth, and back on the sideline...not even Big John could rescue this franchise (in its present state). THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a sad commentary indeed.
My question is: why was this allowed to drag on this deep into the season?? Certainly the writing was on the wall at the end of last season, or (at least) draft day in April...hell, even the start of minicamp in May would've been time for a change.
I just feel bad in a way for Thugmeister and all the other Raider fans here. All I can offer up is this: it'll only get worse, before it gets better. It's not even laughable any more; it's become tragic.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, honestly. I don't even know what else I (or anyone else) can say about this deal. All I know, is this: Some kind of plan needs to be in place in Oakland when Al takes his permanent dirt nap, and damn quick, too!!!
I hate to think what the alternative is...
