I must first give credit for the idea for this blog to WarDog6. He found a statistic that was rather intersting when researching LSU's former seasons.
It seems that LSU has had 2 undefeated seasons in it's history. The most recent was in 1958 where the Tigers went 11-0 and captured the National Championship . Everyone in Louisiana Remembers Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon's run to beat Ole Miss the following year in 59'. This is also the most familiar to those that are dedicated to the Tigers and all that we had to hang our hats on until the 2003 and 2007 seasons. A lessor know season was the 1908 season where the Tigers also went undefeated with a record of 10-0. The 1908 LSU Tiger Football team, coached by Edgar Wingard played their way to a 10-0 record and have been recognized as National Champions by the National Championship Foundation, however, LSU does not officially recognize this season as a National Championship season. Currently LSU is undefeated with a 4-0 record in the 2008 season. With game against UF, UGA, Bama, and Ole Miss left to play, this 50 year streak looks very difficult to continue. On the other hand, not many in the college football world would have expected USC to fall to Oregon State or U of Florida to stumble against Ole Miss. Could this be the year of the unimaginable? Could the Fighting Tigers of LSU pull off an undefeated season? Well I'm not too sure about that but I'm all about tradition. Geaux Tigers!

As long as they get through this bye week unscathed, you've got like their chances.

CenLa, I didn't have time this morning but I wanted to point out again why I believe you gotta like their chances. First of all they have that bye week to get ready for the Gators on the road. The Gators just don't look quite as good as they have these last couple years. I think the LSU defense will put the outcome of that game in the favor of the Tigers. Then they travel to South Carolina where they should outclass the Gamecocks on both sides of the ball but something about this matchup spells trouble. Then, and I think this is huge, if they win their next two games, very likely in my opinion, their next five games are at home. Don't tell UGA but usually playing at home is an advantage. Then their last game is on the road at Arkansas. The other white meat should be tasting mighty fine to the Tigers. Then the conference title game and I don't even want to go there yet. And that is why you got to like there chances. Oh, and I deciphered that code from Prince4, it's really long boring and stupid but in a nutshell he explains how terrible he feels about the Badgers getting ambushed by the Wolverines.

And I quote Bodie from the movie Point Break, "The fifty year storm is absolutly real!". Stranger things have happened in college football. Hell, look at last week.

Interesting stat CenLa. I truly believe that the chances of LSU getting to the November date against Bama is excellent. I also like Bama's chances getting there undefeated also. THAT sets up one helluva game scenario. I have to believe that whichever team wins that game has a great chance of finishing out the season undefeated. I just don't see anyone from the East challenging either team.
However, more will be known once the LSU-Florida matchup unfolds. For Bama, the Ole Miss game looks very dangerous in light of their recent performance. And who knows if the Vols get their act together.
But I have to admit that LSU has the much harder road to travel. Personally, I hope that they can make the run and set up what might be the biggest game in college football on Nov 8.

You could also look at the rule of 2's. The second year a coach is with a team, he has a very good year for some reason. That's not always true, but it happens a lot.

LSU has a good chance to make it to the NC game again with all of their talent. It'll be interesting to have Saban go back to Death Valley. Forget a blackout in Sanford, that's an environment he should fear.

Yea, that COULD do it but man it's a long shot. I would have more confidence in them repeating and would probably bet on it if our former QB wouldn't have screwed himself and his team by acting like a thug! ****! How's Jacksonville State working out for ya Ryan? Well I guess you're not that far from Taladega.................................

The thought is definitely appealing but I can't even allow myself to think a lot about it until the Tigers beat Florida this weekend. Let's just pull very hard for them to get past a very good team playing at home..
