It's safe to say we're into the heart of the football season now. Good times indeed. Arizona State visits California this week and is a heavy underdog. I don't know if I'd give Cal that much credit yet when they're capable of sleepwalking like they did against Maryland. I'm sure Maryland is an improved ACC team but Cal has been a higher grade Pac 10 team for many years now and has to play like it to deserve any 'swagger points'. Being at home they look like they'll win this one but I think we have to wait for the final score to really see where these teams lie in relation to each other in the conference.
Florida State is getting some attention and they visit Miami this week. After losing to N. Carolina last week Miami would love to spoil Fla St's season I'm sure. Again this game should be a good indicator of where these teams are heading. Originally it looked like they were going to give the ACC more credibility, now they're struggling to get back to the top of the conference, go figure. I'll take Florida State by 3.
Michigan is favored over Illinois at home and the Illini have got to win this one to gain any kind of momentum and respect to face Wisconsin and Ohio State later this year. I think they'll upset the Wolvereens if they have a good game plan and don't turn the ball over. Michigan pulled off a miracle last week against the Badgers after doing their best to get blown out in the first half.
Mississippi/South Carolina might not have great BCS implications but it should be an interesting matchup. Both teams can play a good game from week to week and they both need a win. The Rebels do have that 1 quality win over Florida and deserve to be favored but was that game a fluke... this week will help make things clearer.
Missouri is a 10 point favorite over Nebraska. They really should be but with the history of the two programs I would consider this a dangerous game if I were the Tigers. The Huskers should have beaten Va. Tech last week and the fact that they didn't makes me feel Missouri will win but it could be close.
The 'boulevard of broken dreams game', I believe, is Ohio State v.s. Wisconsin. The loser is most likely out of the national title picture and the winner will pull itself out of an earlier embarassment. My hunch is that the Badgers will win this week at home. Their prize... getting to play Penn State next week when I belive they'll lose their second game. The conference is so muddled it's hard to guess, good thing they play, huh...
USC and Oregon will find the Trojans angry at home. Not the place the Ducks want to be. If USC gets on top early it could be an ugly afternoon. If Oregon keeps it close I think they could win this one. The Trojans probably got an earful this week, let's see how they respond.
Last but not least (for me) is the Sooners/Golden Bears game. Baylor has never beaten OU and I don't think this is the season for them to change that. Barring injuries or an overconfidence on a grand scale I think Oklahoma cruises. Baylor is improving but the Sooners are loaded this time around and I think mentally they can handle this one, unlike a certain Colorado game last season that I won't mention... oops, guess I did.
A lot of good games this week, I probably missed one or two that I'll regret but I've got to get to work ( in a hurry), until Sunday... Bones

If Cal can muster at least half the will of the tree-sitters, they should be able to win at home against ASU. And yet, I'd put my money (if I were a bettin feller) on ASU. Da Bears just don't seem to have that hunger to win every game. I suppose that's not fair of me to say. But even last year when they were ranked 2 in the nation, they just let it slip away.
FSU UM might be fun, if not because two powerhouses are going at it, at least because each is trying to come up. And that should cause both teams to step it up a notch. Hopefully more than 15,000 people show up to watch.
I too think Mizz wins in Lincoln, but not by a score of 52-10. 34-27? (Of course now it'll be 52-10).
Duck hunting season in the Coliseum.
Baylor has never beaten the Sooners! While it's not shocking, I wasn't aware of that.
Nor will that change this week.
Not being on the coaching staff, I'm already looking forward to the Texas game.

Bones, I can only say I hope your hunch is wrong about the blvd. of broken dreams game. Whoever loses that game won't be thinking about Green Day but they might be thinking about Skid Row.

... but it wasn't 52-10, lol. I know, that's the first thing I thought when I saw the final score. I guess the Tigers have more mojo, (and the Huskers less) than I thought. The Big 12 championship game should be a great matchup, I hope the Sooners get there.
Oddly enough, although it seems fine now sometimes I can't seem to post question marks in this site, they end up being some weird European E symbol (I think)... I guess everyone is cursed in some grammatical way here.
