Here's my gut reaction take on the VP debate tonight.
On substance, Sarah was beat. She was. Particularly early when she refused to answer questions, but instead wandered off on tangents that fit her agenda. Now, Biden flat lied, or at least was wrong, on many of the things he claimed, but he took a firm stance while the Governor was sidestepping early on. Biden appeared more 'Presidential' even as he lied through his teeth.
In Style Palin won this debate in a landslide. Not even close.
Remember, I'm old. I recall Gov. Reagan won over the American people by talking directly to them and on their level. He didn't try to sound like a brilliant guy, quite the opposite. He didn't talk over our collective heads. Instead he talked TO us. Palin did exactly that, this evening.
It didn't really matter WHAT she was saying, it was how she said it. A couple of winks into the camera, talking to the public the same way one would as if across the coffee table from you, getting Biden's permission to call him 'Joe' before the debate only to use it against him in the debate in what was clearly a planned statement (Say it isn't so, Joe....). Who'd have thunk a seasoned vet like Biden would be so easily hoodwinked by the rookie?
I'll tell you what I thought coming away from this debate...we are looking at the female Ronald Reagan. Maybe better than the great communicator, himself. She had grown men buckling from a wink while agreeing with her plain talk. She had grown women relating to everything she herself has had to deal with.
In other words, the Governor of Alaska came off as your next door neighbor/best friend only far smarter but not the least bit arrogant about it. She was, in fact, self deprecating, at times.
I still don't know much about this woman. But I can now say she is very much in Reagans league where communicating with the American public is concerned. Incredible politician considering her 'inexperience' on the national stage.
