The Fort Wayne TinCaps with make their debut in the new Parkview Field for the 2009 season. The TinCap name comes from midwest legend Johnny Appleseed who used to wear his tin cooking pot on his head. The logo is really neat looking, with an apple wearing a cooking pot. The primary colors of the team will be red, green, and brown.

"In Minor League baseball you have the opportunity to create a brand with a true regional flavor", stated General Manager Mike Nutter. "Johnny Appleseed, while known nationally, is a regional pioneer and folk hero. His story, and the history of the area, gives us an identity that is destinctly Fort Wayne. Johnny was a pioneer of the Midwest frontier in a time of seemingly endless opportunity. We feel a part of a new frontier in Fort Wayne is growing downtown with the continued development of the Harrison Square project."

The name chance from the Fort Wayne Wizards, was part of a community-wide 'Re-Name the Team' project. There were over 2500 suggestions taken into accoutn. Here is a list of some of the one that were (thank Heaven) rejected:

-Fort Wayne Newtons

-Fort Wayne Dudes

-Fort Wayve Weiner Dogs

-Fort Knocks

-Fort Wayne Fashizzle

-iWiz

-Fort Wayne Mighty Gherkins

-Fort Wayne ComPadres (they're the Padres A Affiliate, you know)

-Harrison SquarePants

-Hoosier Daddies

-Fort Wayne Sluggernaughts

-Back FortY

-Fort Wayne Whacker Smackers

-Fort Wayne Mutant Swans

Mutant Swans? You have to admit, some of these are really funny. MiLB is know of some entertaining monikers, but some of these would be just crazy.

 FORT WAYNE TINCAPS!

It's about time that some team has honored that most American of heros. John Chapman has contributed more to the northern midwest than Paul Bunyan and Joe Paterak combined - and he is real to boot.

I would have voted for the Midwest Appleseeds as a name.

Yeah, I'd like a team named after me, too. LOL. From the logo, you could also call them the 'Pot Heads'.

Or perhaps you would have voted for the Fort Wayne Miguel#94 Coaches?

That would be sweet.....

Wow Miguel- giving my home team some props- however the Wizards used to play in "the Castle" so does that mean we here in Fort Fun will have the Tin Caps playing in "the Orchard" or something?
Ha!

The new stadium in Fort Wayne looks like it will be awesome. I'll be hitting a game there next may, and hopefully, in Indy and South Bend. Let me know if I can order an extra ticket.
