Now I know the SEC and respect it. I lived in Georgia for 5 years, SC for 4, Virginia for 4 and NC another 3. I get it. My parents went to UT (not the Austin variety) and my cousins went to Auburn and Alabama (made for interesting holidays). But no denying that THIS YEAR. They aren't what people made them out to be. At All.
Yes I know those who bleed SEC, it is a religion.. blah blah. Fanatics (who have never seen OU - Texas which has far more 2 teams in top 10 matchups then any SEC rivalry game) will cry foul. They will say something about how deep they are. But this is not a year of good SEC teams beating other good SEC teams. It is bad teams period beating so called good SEC teams.
Alabama is great no doubt. Georgia although at times look a bit vulnerable are very good BUT:
Auburn: Supposed to be one of those TOP SEC teams -- it was LSU's game to show they are for real. Well they beat an awful Miss State team by ONE point. Then lost to an Arkansas team that is god awful. No it isn't SEC depth. Arkansas beat Lousiana Monroe by 1 point. They lost 2 weeks ago to Texas by 42points. This team was 112th of 119 in scoring defense. Yet beat Auburn in Auburn.
Vanderbilt - the paper tiger Commodores. Lost to another woeful team. Mississipi State. We are not talking about good conference teams beating each other up. That is to be expected. This is a Mississippi State team that lost by 8 to Lousiana Tech. They also lost to an avg GT team by 31 points. That is a GT team that beat Garner Web by 3 yesterday. Just dreadful.
Florida looked great but then LSU stunk just as bad (losing that badly). Plus LSU win over Auburn does not look nearly as impressive now. But fact is UF lost to Ole Miss. Who at best is an average team.
With Tennessee this bad, Auburn shown as a poser, Vandy no past success and losing to awful Miss State exposes them as a paper tiger. LSU embarrassed to a team that lost to Ole Miss (yes an avg team but great teams win those).
HMMM at this point the SEC seems overrated

Sooner in WA...how dare you actually voice what many may internally think, yet are in awe of the SEC due to their fans and the commentators.
I too respect the SEC. I never lived in SEC territory, but it's obvious they are rich in talent and can kick butt. Sure, they own the last 2 BCS titles--each won against the Big 10's OSU.
Does losing to teams in your conference make them better, or make you more mediocre?
You raise some valid points, with good rationale.
We'll see how they do OOC..
Let the brouhaha begin!

I couldn't agree more than the SEC is overrated. The only two teams that have shown me anything are Alabama & Georgia (and Bamas win over Clemson isn't looking so great now, nor is Georgia's win at Arizona St). Bottom line, this is a down year for the SEC. I'll give credit where credit is due, the conference has been as good as it gets the last fewyears, but they can't hold a candle to the Big 12 this year, and I wouldn't put them too far ahead of the Big 10 at this point. LSU may not even be a top 25 team from what I've seen so far (beating Auburn in a close game is very unimpressive...and that nonconference schedule is an absolute joke). We allcould see Vandy's faceplant coming. Kentucky, South Caroliba, both mediocre. At this point I'd say the Big 12 has at least 6 teams (Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma St, Mizzou, Texas Tech and even Kansas) that could beat any SEC team. I still think Penn State is the best all around team in the country, but unless Alabama runs the table, no SEC team deserves a berth in the BCS Title game!

BigTenFan1354,
You're right in that the SEC is a tad overrated this season, but I think you may have gone too far in proclaiming that there are at least six teams that could beat any SEC team.
Texas and Oklahoma? Sure.
But Mizzou and Ok State I think would have their hands too full with a team like Alabama or Florida. And Kansas or Tech would get slaughtered.

I may have slightly exaggerated by saying that six Big 12 Teams could beta any in the SEC, but one thing I will say for sure is that all 12 teams from the Big 12 would dominate Auburn and Tennessee.

It's always tough playing teams in your conference because they see you year in and year out, obviously that doesn't excuse loses, but no one expected any team in the SEC to go undefeated, the conference is too strong for that.
Oklahoma and Texas are both really strong teams that play worthy opponents. Clearly they're worthy of the top 5. I'd say the top teams are Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Florida. USC is playing high school football. Texas Tech will have to prove they're worthy with a win over Texas, and maybe if Penn St. beats Mich St. and Ohio St. I'll give them some credibility, but the rest of their schedule is iffy. Who does BYU even play that is currently ranked, Utah? Please.
Is anyone else wondering how USC is still sitting pretty at 6 with their loss to an unranked team and who have they played since then to prove they deserve top 10?

I don't think all twelve teams could beat Auburn, maybe 7 or 8.
@DoItForJohnny
the SEC kills its own teams, but so does the the Big 12. 2 higher ranked big 12 teams lost to lower ranked Big 12 teams. Does this mean the lower ranked teams are that good or are the higher ranked teams just overrated. Only LSU (as sad as I am to say it) of the SEC lost to a lower ranked team this week. They lost to a Florida team that was higher ranked until they lost to Ole Miss. And if you watched this game this was not the same UF that lost to Ole Miss, this is the Florida that was ranked No. 4 three weeks ago.
The SEC and the Big 12 are the two strongest conferences. Which is better, hard to say since your comparing games of BIG 12 vs BIG 12 to SEC vs SEC. But the 2 conferences have different specialties. SEC is known for good defense and hard running (LSU is especially known for both, but unfortunately didn't show it against UF) and the BIG 12 has a very pass oriented attack and is known for accurate QBs. There aren't enough inter-conference matchups to determine.

That is the point. I would love to play there this year. The Big 12 is far superior this year
#1 texas, #4 OU, #5/6 Texas Tech (depending
on poll), #8OSU, #11missouri and #16 Kansas
That is 4 top 10 and 6 of Nations top 15. Try playing in our league

Enough with ragging on Kansas. Not for a last second field go they would be undefeated. They beat Virginia tech despite all pundits saying they would get slaughtered. So they are a BCS bowl victor.
Florida who lost to Ole Miss could lost to any of the top 6 of Big12 and play with most as well. The point is besides 2 teams the rest of the SEC has lost to not just bottom tier SEC teams but bad teams period.

Come on it is not the same. Big 12 had #1 losing to #5 in a split stadium environment and your biggest rivalry; Nor is #3 losing a close one to a #17team.
Just not the same -- with SEC. Had Auburn losing to unranked awful Arkansas (note a team texas beat by 42).Nor Vanderbilt losing to an equally bad Mississippi state team. LSU did not just lose but was crushed.

GeauxTigers...I agree that the areas of expertise are different and that its hard to size up teams from different conferences. SEC's defense is stellar, as is Big 12's offensive prowess this year.
Would love if we could get some cross-conference play going.

Boy you must be out of your mind! I'm not sure why you would ever think that when the teams in the SEC beat eachother that it's bad teams beating eachother. Last I checked when an SEC team has played a significant non-conference game (Florida vs. Ohio State, LSU vs. Ohio State) we've come away with an emerald colored football. You call yourself a true southerner, but that's just a way of justification for your determination to bury southern football nation.

Sooner in, You make a good case with some very convenient hand picked facts, but in the end you come across as a disgruntled "dare one say" pathetic homer. Any conference could be picked apart in the same fashion, including the Big 12. You've been dismissed as a homer. CASE CLOSED!

Sooner, with both conferences having six teams in the top 20, how do you see such a disparity between the SEC and Big 12? Just because the SEC has already begun conference play in earnest and the Big 12 is just now starting having only now finished their cupcakes, do we start to see a separation of contenders and pretenders. Mizzou goes down to the OK State cause the finally met a defense with a pulse. OK drops to Texas in scoring festival that featured two defenses giving up over 400 yards. Texas Tech struggles mightly to put away a feeble Nebraska team. And lets not even talk about A&M, ISU, and Baylor. By the standings in your conference, the "paper" Dores might well be the 4th or 5th best team. This is not even to mention Bama, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina (yeah, SC. I'd love to see one your offense happy teams try to play against their defense). Granted the jury is still out on LSU, but at least their level of competition has been much higher than the majority of your conference. For the SEC to be so "overrated" it is amazing how many other conference fans like to try and compare their conference to ours. It is flattering.
You know, we heard all of this early on last year as well. But when the dust settled, it was an SEC team that won the Crystal, as the Big 12 did its usual Big Collapse.
And before you start hating on OSU too much, keep in mind that at least they got there! More than once! And the repeating Big 12 team is ... who?
When the Big 12 can walk the walk, then you can talk the talk. So far they look just dandy playing all the patsies and each other. But year in and year out, when it gets down to the finals they just aren't there. Last bowl season, the Big 12 goes 5-3. The SEC goes 7-2 AND the NC. So before you start beating your chest too hard, might want to wait and see who is still around at the end.
Oh, and considering the head to heads forthcoming between Texas, OK State and TT at least two of those teams is going to have a loss. I want to hear then how you say playing each other is proof of how tough your conference is. Especially since you guys always like to give us grief about saying the same. The word you would be looking for is "hypocrisy".

Hey Moron. I said this year. Try reading before you pop-off. But you cant excuse an LSU 30 pt loss, an Auburn loss to Arkansas, or Vandy losing to Miss State. Florida to Ole Miss. I dont begrudge UGA losing to Alabama anymore than OU to Texas. But the point was your SEC good teams were losing to weak sister opponents.

Again a redneck who can't read. I have not once disparred top teams beating top teams such as UGA v Alabama. Or Florida v LSU in past year's etc... But losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State by definition are AWFUL losses. OU losing an epic battle against a top 5 team is not an issue. Obviously someone has to lose. But none of these teams have lost to a Why are you talking about Nebraska they are 7th or 8th in conference at best. Mizzou lost to an undefeated OSU 17th ranked team that is now top 10. Big 12 has 6 top 15 teams 4 in the top 10.
When are top teams lose to the baylor, AM, and ISUs then talk. Your guys are.

As for Crystal the Big 12 has two BCS champions and 3 teams that have gone to the show for a combined 5 appearances. So you can pipe down. Plus if you can read. A big if. The BLOG was obvious about this year. I didn't argue that the SEC was the best last year. So pipe down
