If you read my title, you're probably thinking this is gonna be some "keep hoping" or "we'll get em next year" verbiage of hollow crap, you are wrong. This is not "Cubbielove, or how i learned to stop worrying and love the Cubs." No. This is a commentary of how things are, like it is, not sugar coated. It's time to discuss this thing we cubs fans usually call "the curse." The Curse. Often referred to as the billy goat curse, it's this story that a man wanted to take his goat into a baseball park, but was refused. He then proceeded to say that the cubs would never win the world series. At the time, the Cubs were playing the tigers, and they probably thought nothing of it. However, they didn't win that year. Or for the next 63 years. Many cubs fans blame the goat. Wow. As George Carlin would put it, "What a bunch of horse ****." First of all, why didn't the cubs win from 1908 to 1945? There was no billy goat. The Cubs were jinx free at that point. Why didn't they win then? They had 5 pennants in that time. Not one was a world series? Second of all, how dumb-**** ignorant must you be to assume you could get into a ballpark with a goat? I mean, it goes against a whole host of sanitary laws established by our government. Why would the cubs have to suffer for following a more than reasonable rule? No, there is no billy goat behind the cubs playoff futility. That's something yuppies made up in order to put the blame on something else (which was nothing new to them). They wanted to somehow make it a single thing to hate, instead of merely the team. It's simple physicology. It's easier to hate what you have no opinion of than something you love. So, this idea has been used to explain the following events: Overall lack of a decent team from 1946-1968. Miracle Mets of 1969. Continuing the line of excellence in the field of futility from 1970-1983. June swoon/Semptember/August slump during that time. 1984 blowing of a two game lead/Leon Durham 1989 Will Clark/ Giants 1998 ****-slapping in the playoffs by braves 2003 Bartman/Gonzalez error/Prior meltdown/emergeance of nowhere Marlins/my crying myself to sleep for a week 2007 See 1998, cept with diamondbacks' 2008 You know. I need not explain. But i will later. There's a thing in life called logic. Logically, to explain all of these with one event outside of baseball is about as stupid as forfeiting a turn in a throwdown. But people much rather would kid themselves into believing something else. That is, until 2008. Didn't everything seem to be aligned? Its 100 years after the last, the cubs have great pitching, bullpen, and hitting was the best. All of the intangibles were clicking. There was a certain electricity that was palpable at Wrigley. When Big Z hurled a no-no, the atmosphere of a playoff game was all so close. The Cubs pulled away, and were all relaxed in the final week. The odds to win the world series were 6 to 5, and the whole world seemed to tune in on the road to the world series. Then...the biggest crapper in cubs history. Lack of pitching, bullpen, and especially hitting. Everything failed. Only 7 runs scored. Why? The Curse? Bull ****. The cubs had all the key players, there were no fluke plays, and there were no major injuries to derail the season. What was the billy goat doing to prevent the cubs from winning? The Cubs had just as much of a chance to win as the Dodgers, if not more so. So, yuppies, I know you're just itching for a reason. And I have it for you. It's something that Sox fans have cordially reminded us over all of these years: The Cubs Suck. That's right, they choke when it counts, and they suck in the playoffs. It's the only logical explanation. Cubs players just are not the same as they are on other teams because the weight of 100 years is on their back. They can't execute in the playoffs, when it counts. Let that sink in. Cause it's gonna be a log winter, and the Cubs may or may not have a fire sale of their players. It's sad, I'm distraught, but what else is there? The definition of insanity to do the same wrong thing over and over. So, the Cubs may need to change face in the offseason. And its going to another whole year before october begins again. If were even there. What's my point? Don't be one of those dumb-**** ignorant people who believe that a billy goat is the reason you have to suffer like this. The Cubs are to blame. 100%. Accept that it's going to be a long winter. Knock on wood. Guard your optimism at all times. And don't forget to believe.

I came here for the word 'manifesto'

I stayed for the good rant.

And I liked the analogy comparing the stupidity of believing in a curse to the stupidity of forfeiting a turn in a TD. Both are pointless and illogical --- and yet both are regularly carried out by certain FanNation members.

You are serving your 'All the President's Men' avatar well.
