Clemson and Tommy Bowden parted ways today, in a move that everyone knew was coming. I feel for Tommy, honestly, as I think that he's a great coach who is still living in his father's shadow. His record (72-45) was great, but the way Clemson's seasons have played out made this move a good one. Clemson either starts out horrible and rebounds late, or they start out great and fall apart. Bowden will be a coach somewhere else next year. Here's 5 jobs that he could have this time next year:
1. Auburn Offensive Coordinator - Tony Franklin was fired as offensive coordinator last week, so the job is currently open. Bowden was Offensive Coordinator for the Tigers from 1991 to '96. Plus he can still be referred to as "Tigers Coach".
2. Commentator - Many head coaches have set out a year or two, worked as a commentator, and then got back in the game. If no head coaching jobs appear for Tommy this year, don't be surprised if he takes this route.
3. Auburn Head Coach - Tommy Tuberville is currently on the hot seat after the Tigers' 4-3 start this year. The pffense has been embarrassing so far this year, so the chance that Tuberville will be fired has arisen. Auburn would be foolish not to look at Bowden if they do fire Tuberville.
4. Florida State Assistant - Think about the positives that Tommy would get with working at Florida State: There would be job security, as his father's the head man, there would be the chance that the Seminoles do great, upping his job offers, and he would probably have a minimal amount of work. The Seminole assistant job wouldn't be on the top of Tommy's Wish List, but it's better than nothing.
5. (Darkhorse Pick) Washington Head Coach - Ty Willingham is as good as gone, so this could become a realistic option for Tommy. One concern is location: Tommy has never held a coaching job west of Louisiana.
