North Carolina's, Jack of all Trades, is gone for the year. Senior Brandon Tate caught a helmet to the knee during a punt return in the first quarter of Carolina's 29-24 victory over Notre Dame. MRI's revealed a tear in his MCL and ACL, he will undergo surgery to repair them both later this week. Tate has been the motor that kept the heels running, and will be impossible to replace. He was already having a career year and it was his electric moves that got UNC in the top 25. You hate to see a guy suffer such a major injury during his senior year, where he is in his last season to showcase his talents (Which he has a plenty of). As a fan I want to thank him for all of his unselfishness during his days in the Hill. He was a brought in by John Bunting and has been a leader since day one. He was willing to be a running back, wide reciever, kick returner, punt returner, the guy would do whatever was necessary for his team to win. That in itself is a big peice of character these days when you have guys who come into school and tell coaches, "i was a running back in high school, I won't play anything else . . . i was the best defensive player in my town, and thats all I'll do for you". Tate was the exact opposite, and had guys talking this season, that his versatility will launch him to a first or early second round draft pick. And after an injury like this, i hope scouts, and NFL guys won't forget about the guy who totalled 397 yards and 2 scores in the first game of the year. Good luck Brandon, hope to see you on Sundays.
