I had been on the site for a bit and I had participated in a few TD's with comments and votes but I had not challenged anyone so I thought I would give it a try. The first lesson I learned was never take a TD or offer one on your own team. I was given that wise advice after I fell into that trap so anyone reading this, you might be able to avoid it unlike myself.
I also was a bit to emotional or connected because it was my team. I again did not realize this until I lost the TD. I also realized that there are individuals on here that really love talking sports in a positive way even when they have negative things to say. I also found that there are some really good guys on here that do not take themselves too seriously which I was a bit guilty of during this TD and another one where I thought I had made some honest comments only to be attacked.
That is where some of my not so fun lessons came into play. You may encounter individuals on here that are just plain rude and obnoxious and trust me, if you challenge them at all or change your position, they will roast you alive with sharp cutting words and quick witts. I have never been all that good at putting people down and making them look foolish, but there are a few on here that could make a living at it.
I have also noticed that some individuals will come out and say, hey, I might act like a jerk, I might be rude, I might attack you, but hey, I am really a nice guy and don't take anything I say too seriously. So, make sure you read all of the disclaimers that one might provide so you don't fall into the, I think your being a jerk but oh, sorry, forgot to read the disclaimer that you really are a nice guy, my bad.
I think most on here are here to have a good time and I have had some pretty good discussions. I have 20 children so I spend most of my time with my family and at work so I do not get much of a chance to talk sports in person. I think this is a great outlet, just be aware of some of the pitfalls that are out there. I am not an expert by any means, still learning the lay of the land here, but good luck and have fun!
