Today a couple of topics have led me to ask this question. Is it too early to have a TD about top 3 NHL teams? Too early to worry about Sid's goal scoring slump (4 game slump to start, btw)? To early to worry about Detroit's passing? Too early to fire a coach?

For some, it's not. I have just seen that Chicago has cut lose Denis Savard. Yes, four games in. I always say I have never seen coach turnover like the NHL has, but this is very, and I mean very, early. And they fired him after their first win, leaving them at 1-2-1 to start the year. This is a very young and upcoming team, but you don't know where they are heading in 4 games. But we should have seen this coming when the Blackhawks hired Joel Quenneville as a scout this summer. That certainly seemed like a set up towards replacing the coach in whom Wirtz seemed to have little faith. It's good to have a fallback like Quenneville, so that doesn't seem like complete desperation, but it still seems early.

It sounds like too many people are freaking out and giving accolades too quickly for their teams so far. I'm impressed with how the Sabres and Rangers have started, but will that stick? As a Wings fan, I was a little ill seeing how the Red Wings moved and handled the puck the first game against Toronto. But I know puck handling displays like that by the Wings are an anomaly. The Wings are not producing offensively like one would expect, but they have to have time to mesh to the new lines.

Perspective people, hold onto your sanity! I know that the Wings started out like gangbusters last year, and then had a really dry spell in the middle. I am sure others had dry spells mid-year as well. And there were surprises. But there is plenty of time. Look at the East: playoffs ending today, the Thrashers would hold down the last spot...with a 1-1-1 record. In the West: Outside of San Jose with 8 points, the next seven have 4 points while the next three have three points. How quickly can these standings change? With one game.

Hockey's here people, enjoy it. The season is an infant now, enjoy watching it grow.

Nice blog santapig. I thought it was early to be dumping a coach. I laughed at people going crazy at Crosby not scoring a goal yet. Detroit had one bad game I'm sure they will 10 near perfect games to make up for it. The season is here time to be jolly.
