Now that we've seen them lose by 25 points to an unranked team can we finally all agree that BYU might have been a tad overrated? Florida State will no doubt enter the top 25 this week after getting past NC State, not the prettiest win by far but they got it done. Nice effort by QB Ponder.
This week Missouri gets a chance to prove themselves against #1 Texas. After last week's shuffle and the fallout it'll be interesting to see who stays focused. Texas will have the confidence of having won a big game. The Tigers won a big game too but that was a long time back against Illinois. Their most recent memory is a bad one. If they lose to Texas there's still a great chance that they'll play for the big 12 title as their closest rival (Kansas) has a brutal schedule in comparison. If Kansas upsets the Sooners on Saturday they could still force a showdown on November 29th. However if the Big 12 North teams keep losing there will be little to play for but pride come the conference championship game. I think Texas beats the disheartened Tigers and Oklahoma dominates the Jayhawks.
On Saturday the Texas Tech Red Raiders get to flex some muscle against A&M after a close call against Nebraska. I don't consider that overtime game a big deal. The Huskers have lost a couple of close ones now and their history alone makes them dangerous. However after A&M the Raiders play Kansas, Texas, Okla St., and Oklahoma... best wishes to them, until the Sooners game of course.
Georgia and Vanderbilt get to try to build momentum against each other this week. These teams are a good example of the 'struggling offense' side of the SEC this year. Georgia's at home, I'll take them in a low scoring close one. (Going out on a limb with that one, ain't I...)
Ohio State should take care of Michigan State this week. Stopping Jevon Ringer would be a feather in the Buckeyes' cap as they head toward a do-or-die against Penn State the next week. If Ohio State wants another chance to redeem themselves for their last two title game failures these two weeks are of incredible importance. Illinois and Michigan could be tricky later but realistically OSU should handle them. Penn State plays the Wolvereens this weekend and if the Nittany Lions lose at home then we know the Big 10 is in trouble. Ohio State will also play UM at home, Michigan is in a big mess this season, as if losing at home to Utah and Toledo didn't prove that...
I'd love to see Alabama and 'Ol Miss this weekend. The Rebels looked good to me against Wake Forest and I'm interested to see how 'Bama reacts. Statistically the Tide look like they'll roll, and they probably will. I didn't realize it until this week that 'Bama has only one more ranked team to beat in their regular schedule (LSU). Then it's the championship game... My early prediction: Florida beats 'Bama in the title game and goes to play in the national title game against...?? Maybe I'll have that prediction next week.
I can't get too excited about the other games this week. Va Tech should beat Boston College. USC should cruise in a record breaking manner against Wash St. I'd like to see California catch fire to give USC some competition but that looks unlikely. I think they'll beat Arizona this week in any case.
So that's it for previews, good luck Oklahoma, I'm sure Kansas is dangerous but they don't have that 'mystique' like they did last year. The Sooners might be dazzled by last week's loss... I preict they win by ten at home, later folks..... Bones
One final personal note to the T.V. gods... I've been a pretty good person, not as bad as some that suffer less, and I just had a cold so have mercy. I see no reason for someone living in my time zone to have to watch Tennessee and Mississippi St. this week, please, oh please don't make me see the Volunteers again, not this week...

I will have to say THAT YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! You say that Florida will beat Bama and be headed to the National Title game......Way wrong!!! What has Florida done but beat and horrible LSU team, who has been overrated all year...they should have lost to Auburn......who is probably the worse team in the SEC this year. And lets talk about Georgia's loss to Bama at least they were a ranked team....We cant say that about Florida's loss. Florida has to get through Georgia first and I see Georgia finally gaining speed with a big win over Vandy as long as Georgia stays healthy....well at least have no more injuries. So my pick is Georgia vs. Bama in the SEC Championship game and that will we be decided on November 1st in Jacksonville. Please do not let me get started on Southern Cal. They lost to who? Oregon St. WOW I am so impressed how all the Pollsters love them some USC..... Give them one year in the SEC and not playing the local area high schools that make up the PAC 10 and lets see how good they are..... Enough said!!!!

I hope UGA's " struggling offense" can get by this week. They struggled so much that they have the #1 ranked offense in the SEC and # 23 in the country some very good D's. I'll just have to hope they improve I guess

I get so tired of hearing the "put this team in that conference and they'll suck" garbage (in reference to #1). For one, if a team is magically lifted up/ placed in another conference - their whole make-up can hence be changed to fit the conference. Not to mention, recruiting/fan bases. Tradition. Coaching choices. All would be different in adjustment to the competition they play (the bulk being in conference). So please, stop the laughable comparisons. As for Bama over Florida... I feel the game would be Alabama's to lose. But, its way early to make those comparisons. You couldn't be more correct about Ohio State - these next two weeks are make and break. The offense has been melancholy and stagnant at best, and both Michigan State / Penn State are excellent in the trenches - something Ohio State needs to improve upon. Good article.

I agree with your comments about the a teams make-up would be different if they were in another conference. Answer me one thing #3 how does USC keep getting ranked high in the polls when the they only play one ranked team every year.....just something to think about. You do have to agree that each year the SEC ends up beating itself up with the stiff competion. And the way the BCS is situated 2 SEC teams cant play each other for the naitonal title even if they could be the best 2 teams in the country. I also have to agree with #2's comments about UGA having a " struggling offense". Where does this blogger get off saying that. Sometimes it pays off to do some research. I was at the Bama vs. UGA game and will have to say that in the first half UGA was out matched but at the time UGA got beat by the #2 team in the nation and UGA was moved down the same number of spots as the likes of USC and Florida. But both Florida and USC lost to unranked teams and if I recall correctly USC was losing 21 to 0 at the half. just to prove a point that the polls are full of .......well you know!!!

My bad Georgia fans, they do indeed have a reasonable offense statistically. The two games I have actually seen were against South Carolina (bad offensive effort) and Tennessee (26 points but should have been a lot more against this team). The two games we're basing good offensive performance on are against Arizona State (which made me a temporary believer) and in a losing cause to Alabama. I think more accurately Georgia is struggling with consistency more than offensive stats. I've done a ton of research but was clouded by personal observation, the by-product of having to blog at 6am, lol. Thanks for the heated debate comments though , thats what makes football fun. I think Florida with Tebow's experience and their new offensive variation capability makes them very strong and 'Bama's youth will catch up with them this season. Alabama should be a force to contend with for years to come though, maybe this year... hey a prediction is just that.

I agree that Bama's youth and susbsequent RELATIVE lack of depth COULD be a problem at the end of the year when everyone is banged up- or in UGA's case sidelined! They might not be able to replace a Cody, Jones, or their big OL crew.
UF has looked great for one game, and mediocre to fairly good in the rest. I have watched 3Q's or more in each of their games since last year. It will beintersting to see which is the real team's ID is. I selfishly hope that last week wasn't proof the their youth is growing up on the feild.
You are right about UGA being inconsistent from drive to drive. I think that is due to the fact that the OL has been hit so hard that their M.O. has had to change over the season. UGa wants to smash it then throw deep to keep the D off balance. Sadly, running up the middle has not been as easy ( thought it has worked some) with the OL rookies.

Chayes119, I think that the SEC is probably still the best conference in the nation, although one could certainly make a case for the Big 12, as well. Regarding USC, however, you're just dead wrong. USC would be in the top 2 in ANY conference, INCLUDING the SEC.

It's official. LSU has no defense. Those 11 guys they put out there? They're just that.......11 dudes who don't play offense.
It's gonna be a long night for me. Hell, a long rest of the season. Leslie has been quiet all week on So. Car. I smell something's up. I'm just glad it's the eact coast USC and not the west coast USC that LSU is playing.
