After 42 seasons, I've finally figured out the Red Sox.  And I thought Yankee fans were slow on the uptake!

The Red Sox have always had a flair for the dramatic.  All those seven game World Series losses... Winning every game six in their history when they faced elimination.  Schiraldi, Stanley and Buckner giving it away better than the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Taking us to the edge of our seats, stretching our hopes to levels of incredulity that would make the most adroit taffy puller proud... But this new reality... the one the Patriots were so kind to kick-off and once the Sox picked up the beat, and was cemented by that strangely familial GM in Minnesota was kind enough to trade us Perry and Hamilton to go along with the Celtics' Mr. Tyler.

I figured it out.. They are procrastinators... Their Rich Grandpa got 'em into the Ivy League school.. Uncle Theo makes sure they always have the books and latest Mac notebook... and Big Daddy Larry keeps an open balance on their Black Amex card through the semester.... But when it's time for the tests, especially the mid-terms... that always seems weeks away...

They know they should crack the books when everybody else does.. but there is always the weekend down the road... Thursday might do, but there's a midnight madness party they heard about, and Friday.. well Friday the night everybody goes to the pub, and Saturday morning... ummm, did I mention Friday night was, kinda late and that big corn-fed kid that nobody likes, Joba, volunteered to be the designated driver? And there's some great college football on and then it's Saturday night and the test is Monday, but that girl from my Western Heritage class just called, and she wanted to know what I was doing...

And then as the haze begins to lift, and she asks if I wanna do brunch... It's SUNDAY.... no, sorry, really, it is NOT you, but I gotta call the boys, and Kev, and Speedy Roberts, and both JDs and Coco and I really gotta get on this.... Somebody get Papi up and make sure Paps is ready for tonight...

One more time.. One more last one in the door, didn't shower, I know I'm five minutes late but I was up all night studyin' and you gotta let me take it...

And Philly is waiting in the finals...  We've already done the dance with Wilt and the Dr., Bobby and Bernie, Donovan and the original Ocho-Uno, and starting Wednesday, the circle will be complete.  If we can just ace this one last mid-term... And their right... These are the best years of our lives.
