Here is my top 25 after week 8 (this was posted before the "official" polls came out Sunday afternoon):
1- Texas (7-0)
2- Penn State (8-0)
3- Alabama (7-0)
4- Oklahoma State (7-0)
5- Oklahoma (6-1)
6- USC (5-1)
7- Texas Tech (7-0)
8- Ohio State (7-1)
9- Florida (5-1)
10- Georgia (6-1)
11- South Florida (6-1)
12- LSU (5-1)
13- Utah (8-0)
14- Boise State (6-0)
15- TCU (7-1)
16- Georgia Tech (6-1)
17- Kansas (5-2)
18- Minnesota (6-1)
19- Pittsburgh (5-1)
20- Missouri (5-2)
21- Ball State (7-0)
22- Boston College (5-1)
23- Michigan State (6-2)
24- Virginia Tech (5-2)
25- Tulsa (7-0)
*After the top 10 teams, I found it very difficult to say that many of the others merit much of a ranking at all. Missouri looked terrible last night, but who would be ahead of them? It was hard to keep Michigan State in the top 25 after they got crushed by Ohio State, but they have more solid wins (*they beat Iowa, Notre Dame, & Northwestern) than a team like Florida State or South Carolina.
*I'm not so sure if the last few weekends show great parity in college football, or just that there aren't many truly great teams this year.
*Quite frankly, I don't think Alabama has looked sharp at all since the first half of the Georgia game, but a win is still a win. I expect the Crimson Tide to lose to LSU and drop the SEC title game by year's end.
*I know it's early for predictions, but I expect Penn State to win 31- 14 at Ohio State next week. At this point of the season, Texas & Penn State look like the two best teams to me (with Oklahoma and USC not far behind).

Of course you could get a lot of arguments, (tOSU higher than Florida, BYU gone) but overall a nicely done blog. Keep em coming, makes for some interesting debate.

How any pollster could still have BYU in their poll after Thursday night is beyond me. All of the BYU wins have proven to be against terrible teams (UCLA, Washington due to a missed extra point). TCU was the first quality opponent they played and they got destroyed. I understand that any team can have a bad game (like Mich State against Ohio State or LSU vs Florida), but you have to at least have some quality wins on your resume to offset the bad loss & still get the benefit of the doubt. BYU will get crushed by Urah next month.

Big1354, I believe when the polls come out, BYU will still be in the top 25. I base that on the fact that their only loss is to a 6-1 team and no other top ten team has fell more than 8 or 9 spots after a loss. My guess is they will drop around 13 spots.

If Oklahoma State beats Texas (which I would agree is unlikely, but certainly not impossible...I see Vegas has Oklahoma State as 11 point underdogs) I would absolutely put them ahead of Alabama and into the #2 spot. If Penn State wins at Ohio State (which I think they will) than I would have to put Penn State at #1 (expecially with that Oregon State blowout win looking more & more impressive each week). I think Oklahoma is a better team than Oklahoma State, but are polls meant to pick who you think is better, or who has proven to more deserving of a ranking (I think it should be the latter of the two, though most pollsters seam to go vote based on the former). That's generally how I rank one loss teams. Is Ohio State better than Florida or Georgia (probably not), but they lost on the road to USC, compared to home losses by Florida & Georgia. I probably should have put Georgia ahead of Florida since Florida's loss to Ole Miss is much worse than Georgia's loss to Alabama...Ohio State's 45-7 win over Michigan State (a game I unfortunately attended) was as impressive a win as I've seen this year, hence they "deserve" the #8 spot for now.

Missouri was a tough one to rank. I know Texas is great and all, but Missouri looked absolutely dreadful on defense, and the once unstoppable offense has looked average the last two weeks. I think they'll perobably finish in the top 15 this year, but they simply aren't deserving a better ranking at this point (the wins over Illinois and Nebraska are quality wins, but by no means a signature win). Missouri should be able to win out and make some noise in determing the Big 12 champion.
