Watching this game with the Rams, I decided it was time for me, as a Cowboy fan, to make my Christmas list. Unlikely as it will be, I can wish.
1) A new hands OFF owner, who will let the football people do their job. (This wish would be the ultimate, but very unlikely. If only JJ would start losing money on the team, maybe he'd consider selling). He really don't need a winning team to make money...he has plenty of other things he could sell, Pepsi, Miller beer or things of that nature.
We needed some CB's because of injury. What does he do? He goes and gets another big name receiver. Granted, we could use him, but we could have made do with Austin , Crayton and maybe Stanback. But a CB is a necessity, not a luxury right now. Getting Roy Williams is a luxury. Are we trying to sell tickets for next year at the Jerry Jones Stadium? I wonder if he's going to buy the naming rights for his own stadium? It wouldn't surprise me.
2) Another back up QB. And NOT Bollinger.
Brad Johnson sucks, plain and simple. No ifs' ands or buts about that. I don't care if Roy Williams was the jolly green giant, he could not catch balls thrown 5 yards behind him or balls thrown to defenders either. Bring back Steve DeBerg, even at the age of .....65? At least he could lead someone with the ball. No, I won't go so far as Babe Laffinburg. And to quote the immortal Wade Phillips.."we can win with Brad Johnson." Win what? A stuffed animal at the fair?
Romo needs a good back up, not some washed up 40 yr old drawing his last paychecks. Did it look like he "managed" the game? Did he show leadership? I didn't see him chew out anyone, not one time.
3) Special teams coaches.
This area has been a major concern for quite some time, but yet, no one wants to remedy it. Who in the cornbread h**l is Bruce Read anyway? Or whatever his name is? Where have you gone Joe Avezanno?
4) A Donkey Bar Be Que for the offensive line.
That is, a good butt chewing, to put it politely. You cannot stop the defense from coming if you're throwing buckets of water at them. They knew Johnson could not run, so what do they do? These guys are bigger than most houses, but all of a sudden, they cannot stop anyone from coming in and sacking the QB. They caused Romo's finger problems, and the punter being put out of action, so why should they care about Johnson staying upright? They better start caring before it's too late.
My Christmas list isn't too long, and maybe it's unlikely to happen. But, I can wish.
