As a die-hard Alabama fan (I fainted last year during the Arkansas game-in my own house no less), I am cautiously loving this season. Simply put, I am Charlie Brown preparing to kick that football once again. And so far, I am seven for seven on the season. But I know, Lucy (aka LSU) plans on snatching the ball and my championship dreams away from me. Yes, I should have more faith, but I've been sucker punched too many times. The LA-Monroe game last year comes leaping to mind. The near-disaster with plucky Kentucky last week had my twins scurrying for cover-'cause Momma was mad! The second half let down with Ole Miss on Saturday(although the defense did wake up and tame the wild Rebel/Hog when they needed to do so.) sent me looking for the Toms to soothe my aching heart.
It's not that I am wimping out or even losing the faith. I can't let myself fully abandon reason and fall head-over-heels in love with this team. No, chasing of the elusive little red-haired girl(National title hopes) for me. I plan to keep my feet planted firmly on the ground and aim for more attainable girls like Fat Phyllis from Knoxville and Two-Faced Tina from down on the Plains. Yes, I know they are cheap dates this year, but a rivalry is a rivalry. And ole Tina served crow the last time five times we hooked up. Despite these mental hurdles, a little flicker of hope has been kindled in the pit of my stomach. The performances of Jones, Coffee, Ingram, and the O-Line stoke the flame each week. The wood harvested from Mt.Cody each game keeps it burning. So, maybe we get to the BSC Championship, maybe we don't. I don't care as long as I to get serve Miss Two-Faced Tina some roast crow.
