As we await the start of the 2008 World Series, I guess I should do a post-mortem on the Nationals' season. More like an autopsy, really.

I'm afraid Nick Johnson's seen his last days in a Nats uniform. The after effects of his injury back in '06 @ Shea, sadly, carried over to this year. Dmitri Young's health problems also helped contribute to the instability of the lineup.

If it wasn't injuries, it was the ineptitude of our pitching--starting rotation and the bullpen. I'm of the opinion Charlie Manning was the answer for shoring up said bullpen; unfortunately, the front office thought otherwise and waived him (where the Cardinals picked him up).

At least Luis Ayala got sent packing...to the Mets. Yeah, how'd that work out for you?? No postseason, again. Same thing for Jon Rauch, though I do believe we have found our 2B (for now) in Emilio Bonifacio. But, who knows what'll happen between now and spring training??

     Now, to other news...

I was surprised to read that Jim Bowden hid his cancer during the season. I'm even more surprised he still has his GM job, after this debacle of a season. You think we can find us a REAL general manager now...one who's not afraid to get us a bat (or 2, or 3) to shore up this lineup??

Also, nice to know this organization isn't "deadbeat dad"-like, when it comes to paying your debts. I'll explain: seems the Nats didn't want to pay the $3.5 million in rent to the D.C. government, for using the new ballpark. They settled up the other day and paid off, but not before extracting about $4 million from the D.C. City Council for "improvements" to Nationals Park.

Well, anything for a buck. (Or $611 million.)

Finally, the World Series is upon us. My prediction is 6 games. Who wins, depends on one thing only...which Rays team shows up. The one that's surprised the baseball world all year, or the one that (almost) let the Red Sox back into the ALCS?? Focus, people, FOCUS!!! (Or, as they like to say, "eyes on the prize".)

     Personally, because I'm a Nats fan...GO RAYS!!!

Soooo.... what makes a Nats fan root for the Rays? I don't get it.

It's this way: I tend to think that Tampa IS legit, if only for this year anyway. Plus, since we're dealing with the NL East, if and WHEN the Nats make the postseason...natch, I root for them.
Everybody ELSE in the division, I personally would rather they bomb out. That help answer your question, Thug??

The Nats have just as much of a chance winning a world series as the Caps do of winning a stanley Cup. So that would be ZERO chance! Even if the Nats or Caps won who would be there to see it. its not like DC has any legitimate fans anyways
