Mississippi State beat Middle Tennessee 31-22 last night, bringing their record to 3-5.  Believe it or not, this team could still reach bowl eligibility.  Their remainins schedule is Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, and Ole Miss.  They would need to win three of these four games.  Likely?  Not unless their offense wakes up.  Possible?  Absolutely.  Arkansas is not a great team, Kentucky is weakened after a fast start, and Ole Miss has floundered after their Florida upset.  Alabama is very good, but Mississippi State is just the sort of team that gets overlooked, and might catch them on an off day.

AL has lost to State the past two or three years running. I would expect that game to be brutal on the Bulldogs with AL having a better team this year.

I didn't say they ought to be a bowl team, I said they could be based on the remaining schedule. Because of the volume of bowls, lots of teams make it that don't deserve it.

So RJK, I gather you are saying Bama won't look past MSU because of the recent history. If you are right and they take it seriously, then yes, it could get very ugly.

Whoa Brother! Now I am a Dawg follower myself but that's a lofty goal for them. I grew up in Jackson and do follow them, as a matter of fact they are my second favorite team in the SEC. But I really don't know about beating Ole Miss and definately not Bama. Arkansas is going through a lot right now and the year doesn't look that good. A win maybe. Kentucky? well that could be a close one. Bama .........nope, maybe, aaaaaa, nope! Look I wish it would happen but not gonna. As for Ole Miss this is for the Egg so anything could happen. They need 6 to be eligible so the more I type this the more possible it is looking...hhhmmmm.........it could happen but it's a long shot. I guess we'll see. You bring up an excellent point though.
