Normally I would write on the HTTR blog about the Skins' win yesterday. But last night, I saw something that made me sit up and take notice.
OK, so the 49ers lost again. That's not the story, though. No, the real story was what happened during the game (and the subsequent post-game press conference). If there's still anyone who doubts why Mike Singletary is in the Hall of Fame, his actions yesterday should erase them.
First, after J.T. O'Sullivan throws an INT to end the 1st half, #50 decides to bench him...for the remainder of the game. Ah, but that was the appetizer. The main course came when Vernon Davis, after making a catch, shoves a hand under a Seahawk's facemask. Taunting, and 15 yards back. (Well, he did go to Maryland. Makes one wonder if he learned respect for the game there as well. Eh, I doubt it.)
Anyway, Singletary tells him (in essence) "get the eff off my field, and shower up". That would've been the end of it, except for the post-game press conference. I saw a clip of this last night on the NFL Network, and it's a thing of beauty. I won't go through the whole deal, but suffice to say he made it crystal clear who's running the show.
(Guess that s*h*i*t he took from Mike Ditka all those years in Chicago finally paid off, I guess.)
As I'm watching this, I think to myself if Ditka was version 1.0...Singletary's become the upgrade. He's Ditka 2.0, I'm convinced of that. He's got the makings to be a good head coach. Unfortunately, it won't be in San Francisco. I really see him taking either the Detroit or Seattle job(s) after this season.
Funny, but I keep hearing this sound in my mind. You know, something like:
"We'll be here all day, baby!!! I like this kind of party!!!"
Hey, it could happen. He could turn it around, if only for 8 more games in San Fran.
