The system definitely needs to be changed that's for sure and there are certain areas that we both agree upon but the problem is if you only have former players your only seeing part of the whole. Writers see it from a fans point of view which is the side most commonly seen in baseball.
After playing the game and having such successful careers the HOF members don't have the same view as the people. The hall of fame wouldn't matter if it wasnt for the fans and neither would the game of baseball and the writers speak for the fans. It is all about the fans they made them what they are and they should get a say in the whole process because all writers really are, are fans who make a living writing about baseball.
So there are faults in both ways of the system writers or members or whatever what we need to do is take the best of both take out the writers who didnt vote for rickey and all the other greats maybe only because they didnt like them. Then form a new committee like the veterans committee but made up only of people active in MLB still. Then what we would have is a system full of qualified caring people voting for the HOF then we will get our 100% member and a better system.
