I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan that currently resides in the greater Tampa Bay area. I've watched alot of Rays baseball this year, by now who hasn't, however I think the rays needed another power left handed bat. CC (Carl Crawford) is a great left handed hitter but he isn't known as a power slugger which leaves Pena alone. Well the problem with the St. Louis Cardinals, where do we start, involves pitching and for once a gluttony of great young outfielders. So now you see where this is going. I think a good fit for the Rays would be Ankiel. A CHEAP, power hitting left hander, from florida with a hell of a glove. I would personally hate to lose Ankiel however with Rasmus coming up he would fill the void of power hitting left handed outfielder. The Rays seem to have a excess of starting pitchers; Kaz, Price, Shields, Garza, or Sonnanstine which would fill a huge problem area for the Cardinals. I know that the Rays won't part ways with Kaz, Shields, or Price but how about Garza or Sonnanstine. I know the trade probably couldn't happen straight up but throw in a prospect either way you may have something to talk about. Just a thought......Garza would look good in red and Ankiel (the florida boy) would sparkle in blue.

I'd trade Ankiel for Garza right now. The problem for the Rays in acquiring Ankiel is that he is a free agent after 2009, and has Scott Boras for an agent. So, while your statement that Ankiel is cheap (even though he'll get a nice bump through arbitration, probably) is true right now, it will not be true in 12 months, if he has a good 2009.

Absolutely not! Ankiel is still learning how to play the position and gets better with every at bat. There is no reason to trade him for Garza, unless the Rays throw another AAA prospect that is just about ready for the Majors. I would prefer to see Peavy come here for Anderson and Garcia.

I'd prefer Peavy too.....even if it means giving up Rasmus.
