I know many people have been on this site a long time. I wil be coming up on 1 year at the end of Dec. It's been fun for the most part. I've written a few blogs, and joined some groups, I've even had some nice conversations with some nice folks.
My problem is with those who feel that they can just say anthing they want to people. There are truly some characters on this site. I have held my own, but I find that it is just getting worse, with people making "dupe account" or "alters", whatever you want to call them. For me it has taken the fun out of it. No, I'm not a prude, I just want to talk sports.
I joined FanNation to talk sports and from this day forward, that's all I will talk about. Some folks feel like they have a right to disrespect people (people they don't really know). Length of time on FN or number of comments doesn't bring any priviledge. Everyone deserves the same respect. We all know the mods aren't going to police the site, so maybe we as members should.
If you want to talk about baseball trades, or who will win next Sunday (football), or who's the best NBA team, I'll gladly join in. If you bring sex, politics, race, religion, or talk about body parts and what someone can do with them, leave me out, because my answer will be "NO COMMENT". If you want to be a sexist or racist do it somewhere else, this is a sports site.
Now I'm sure many will disagree with me, but that's you right. I will not respond to any nasty remark, so you'll be wasting your time.

Actually, the mods ARE policing this joint now. My blog of yesterday (somehow) got taken down, but while it WAS up, people were reading it.
Anyway, I'm with you when you state this place SHOULD be sports-only. If it were only TRUE, though...
At any rate, happy anniversary. MY 1-year anniversary came 3 weeks and a day ago.

^^^^^I have noticed a lot of deleted comments lately on T&R, so maybe the mods are lurking, but there were plenty others that should have been gone too. Congrats on you 1 year also.

While my writing tends to deal with controversial issues (my most recent entry entails one particularly nasty topic, doping) I understand and respect your (and every reader's) right to be treated with a modicum of objectivity in writing. Posts doing little more than decrying this or that rumor about another user do nothing but belittle the work of those of us who treat this medium as an opportunity to use the SI moniker to extend our writing to a sports-loving public...
Congrats on the upcoming one-year anniversary... from the looks of it, I have one looming really soon as well...

... and if you ARE policing this, Mods, perhaps a chance to get some paid gigs from the parent company? ;-)

Like in any community, real life or on the net, there will always be a certain percentage of absolute idiots. There are many fools online who feel they can speak with impunity from the safety of their keyborads simply because they won't suffer the same consequences as they would in real life if they popped off at the mouth like that.
The mods do police comments IF they are reported as offensive. But they are generally in reactive mode rather than pro-active. It's best to just shun those who choose to bring negativity to FanNation.
