Georgia vs. Florida

Saturday, November 1, 2008 - Jacksonville, Florida

Final: 49-10 (loss)

2 The number of losses (2) for Georgia after suffering a devastating blowout vs. Florida on Saturday. The preseason #1 is 7-2 overall but only 4-2 in the SEC - and both losses have been embarrassing. Coach Richt admitted, "It's hard to deal with but you've got to get right back to work and get ready to play."

5 The reigning Heisman recipient Tim Tebow accounted for (5) touchdowns for FL. Last year he was beat up and sacked six times by the Georgia defense - this year, well, give him credit. He scored a season high three rushing TDs and tossed for two more.

39 The final outcome was so bad that the (39) point margin of victory was only one point shy of Florida's largest ever in this series - a 47-7 win back in 1996. The 39 point difference can be attributed to a lot of things: "We did a lot of shooting ourselves in the foot and did not take advantage of the opportunities that we needed to," said Coach Richt. Such as: a failed (and questionable) onside kick, two missed field goals, a Moreno fumble, inopportune penalties (one that negated a Georgia interception of a Tebow pass), interceptions, and a failed challenge (resulting from a bad spot).

42 Florida scored (42) unanswered points after a Blair Walsh field goal made it 7-3 in the second quarter. It was 49-3 before Joe Cox hit Aron White for a 19 yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

188 The number of yards (188) rushing for Knowshon Moreno in last year's edition of The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The result was an enormous victory for Georgia and a punishing spring for FL. The Gators did 188 push-ups, sit-ups, and crunches - one for every yard Moreno gained in last year's game - during spring workouts. This year Moreno rushed for only 65 yards on 17 carries and did not reach the end zone.

265 The number of yards (265) passing for Matt Stafford. He was 18 for 33, but Georgia did not score a touchdown with him on the field. Stafford was sacked twice and tossed three interceptions. One of the biggest blows of the game was a Joe Haden interception that he returned 88 yards to Georgia's one yard line. It came in the third quarter with the score only 14-3, but Tebow put it across the line one play later and the rout was on.

Game Notes: There was no bulletin board material in the build up to this game and there were no stunts such as Georgia's excessive celebration last year - but Florida's Urban Meyer calling two timeouts while holding a 49-10 lead in the final minute of the game certainly stirred things up. Meyer said he did it to give back Emmanuel Moody a couple of extra carries - but no one is buying that. Coach Richt downplayed it, saying, "They can use as many as they want. It's in the rules. They used their timeouts, and they have a right to do that." On the subject of being blown out twice this season by SEC rivals, Coach Richt said, "Give these other teams credit. I think when the season is over history might prove those two teams are the best teams in the country . . . at least two of the top five anyway. We had a chance to be one of those with a victory in either one of those games."

Just like it said. The dawgs shot themselves in the foot too many times in that game. I hate to say it but at game's end Florida and Alabama were better teams no matter how the stats looked.

It was a rough game, but we have to keep ourselves together in order to finish the season.

Hard to believe UGA could look so good against LSU and then play so poorly against UF. I really thought it was going to be a close game that would be decided in the final minutes -- maybe even on the final possession of the game, but what the heck, just goes to show what I know . . .

LSU is overrated and not much of a team. Les miles is destroying that team and probably leave at the next chance. It's not UGA's fault, UF is a really good team and can't wait til the Bamma - UF matchup.
