Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer will step down at seasons end. Actually, he is being pushed out a seasons end. That is disappointing. Not a Tennessee fan, but to see a university dismiss a coach during the season is bad enough. But one who the players still respect and want to play for is something else. I could understand if he had lost his locker room or his team was out of control. But there is really nothing wrong with the team other than they are having a losing season. Realistically, how many losing seasons has Tennessee survived? He has been there 17 years. A dedicated, not entertaining other offers, 17 years. In this day in time when many coaches abandon their teams in the blink of an eye, his loyalty should have been rewarded, respected. Instead he has been cast aside like yesterday's news. He has coached some of the greatest players, given the state their first championship since 1951 and help Tennessee remain relevent. Add insult to injury, the AD said that Fulmer was asked to stay in an administrative compacity. Seriously?! You just ripped this man's heart out, but you want him to stay and shuffle a few papers as a consolation prize? How tacky is that? But I'm not really worried about Fulmer. If Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Bobby Peterino and Rich Rodriguez can get new surroundings and be embraced, then I am SURE that other teams, both college and pro, would welcome Fulmer.

Of course there's nothing wrong with Tennessee. Obviously, it's ok to be at the bottom of the SEC and lose to UCLA. 3-6, that's where this program's at, no matter what Phatty has done in the past, now is the only thing that matters and we aren't what we used to be. But that's ok let's let Phil sit atop the throne till he dies. I hate when people from out of state try to put into words the Fulmer situation, because no one knows more about the program than the people of Knoxville. Fulmer has had it coming, he's gotten it, now let's move on with the football team.

Ok, all i have to say is its about time. His run was up about 5 years ago. I know he's a great coach but he was no longer effective at UT. All the fans knew it the school just didnt want to believe it. The only reason they were even at the top of last year's SEC East standings was a fluke win over UGA and the rest of the SEC teams beating each other. He's lucky to have stayed at UT for this long.

Exactly. I tried to put that into words in my comment but didnt succeed. Fans want him out. They've been patient long enough.

No one is saying that Phil should stay on the throne until he dies, but at least let him finish the season. If your not bowl bound...what harm could it do. Pushing the man out is disgraceful.
