I don't have to like it, but as a firm believer in the American electoral system I damn sure do have to respect it. The electorate has spoken and the Senator from Illinois won the race in an electoral college landslide. Sincere congratulations to President Elect Barack Obama who overcame what many thought were unsurmountable odds when he began his quest to the White House some 21 months ago.
Now is not the time to lament what happened or dwell on what we might feel was fair or unfair. It's not a time to hand wring, worry, cry, scream, or riot. That's not what this great country is all about.
Now that a very long, very hard fought, and very emotional campaign season has come to an end, now is simply time to congratulate the man who came out on top.
If you voted in this election, no matter what emotions you might feel at the end of this thing, just remember that tomorrow morning you are still going to wake up in the greatest country the world has ever known and that has not changed as we learn the results didn't exactly go the way we might have liked.
To Barack: Tonight I salute you for an incredible achievment. Just know that starting tomorrow your actions will be under intense scrutiny from all of us, the likes of which you nor anyone else has ever experienced.
