This blog is not a rant, or to tell everyone what I think about the topic. This blog is to get the fan's opinion, which I think is most important. So here we go. These are some reasons why we should have a playoff system.

1) The BCS is too flawed

2) This is the best way to determine the top two teams in the nation, by letting them prove it on the field.

3) This would be amazing to see. Just think of all the great games that would be played. Every matchup would contain two top 8 teams.

4) College Football Ratings would sky rocket.

5) Overall, it would just make College Football so much more exciting.

To me the playoff system sounds like a great idea. So... Why not?

WRONG in SO MANY ways it hurts to even think about

College football would not be half as popular as it is today if they had the
SAME POSTSEASON as EVERY OTHER SPORT! BCS is College Football

FACT: NCAA F.B.S. has exactly 68 different schools playing a postseason game. Do you actually think that the NCAA would give up all that $, to have 8 or 16 teams play. Absolutely not.
WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Plus 1, maybe by 2012.

Putting aside the flaws, Division 1-A football needs to get with the program. You CAN'T do it with 8 teams (or 16, or even 64). No, 32 teams are what you need.
16 from 1-A, 16 from 1-AA. Settle the question once and for all, who's the best in Division 1 football. It CAN be done, people!!!

So college football has been around for over 100 YEARS. The BCS has been around for TEN years. And you say that BCS is college football? How does that work?

Also, how could it not be as popular, when you have the BEST TEAMS in the NATION fighting each other off to become the national champion?

But in your defense, there should be a way to keep the rest of the post season games.

Could it be done? Sure. And it could be done in such a way to keep all the Bowl Games intact. There would be people against the playoff, but, there are already people against the BCS (but that changes week to week). It would take some tweaking but in the end it could be done, and who knows, it could happen in the near future. And about those Div II schools, you want to play for the BCS championship, then come over to the Div I and play a full season. Being competitive in a game or two doesn't cut it!

This is a massive involved topic that has been hashed a thousand times over in the public forum and behind the closed doors of the ADs and college presidents. What bits of knowlege do you expect to gain in 2 paragraph comments?

People who manage sports programs with budgets that ca nexceed $100 million have determined that it is not financially beneficial, yet people continue with the finance argument?

What is the point of these posts? After the posturing was completed at the last meeting of the major conferences to discuss the BCS bowls, it was finally admitted that none - not a single 1 of the major 6 conferences - supported a playoff in any format.

Perhaps the ADs and Presidents who earn 6 and 7 figure incomes have more information to reference, more experience, and a less biased opinion at the outset.
