I decided to post this personally, instead of through the Veterans' group, since I wanted the entire site to read it.
Today is Veteran's Day and we should all be thankful we live in a free country. This is for all the active duty and retired military, the Veterans of WWI, II, Korean, Vietnam Gulf war and now the War on Terrorism.
I know we don't always agree with our government's decisions, especially when it comes to war, but just as the firemen, policeman, doctors and nurses are saving lives every day her in the U.S., our Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen are the true Heroes. War is unpopular and terrorism is an ugly thing, but we can try to stop it over there or fight it here. We as a Nation must support the fight until the last of our troops are home for good.
I thank all those who have served in the past and salute those who are serving today. So, when you think about the freedoms you enjoy, also think about how and why you have those freedoms, thank a Veteran.
Comment welcome as long as you play nice.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!!!!!

Let me add, even if you find fault with the policy/policies in place concerning why the troops are there...NEVER take out your anger at those in uniform.
I think that's enough to ask, don't you??

Seems we have much the same sentiment, Sandy... and coming from such vastly different perspectives, too. Here is to the men and women who serve and have served in harms way and here is to America... one damn great country.

You know, I actually extended my hand to a Veteran today and said, "Thank you". The look in his eyes and the fact he knew exactly what I meant was ... well, as the commercial goes...priceless. So again, thanks, Veterans.

I bet he was surprised, as they don't hear that often enough. Most are thankful for the support. Thanks.

Great job sandy.
I'm Canadian and I have the privelege of living in the U.S. I live in a militaty 'town' (San Diego) so I have plenty of friends and colleagues that served or are currently serving in the Forces.
I'd also like to send my greetings to any Canadians that are honoring 'Rememberance Day' today up in Canada today... 'Lest we Forget'.

When Desert Shield/Desert Storm ended and the troops came through Westover Reserve Air Force Base on their way home, the Base Commander opened the gates to civilians and let us welcome the men and women back and thank them for their service to our country but the soldiers who had waited the longest for their Welcome Home were the Vietnam Vets who were allowed to walk the red carpet and receive their tribute. There wasn't a dry eye to be found on the base that day.

Awesome!!! Very well put. My son had the privilege of marching in the Veterans day parade with scouts 2 years now. He loves it. Gets to carry the American Flag and witness taps and salute. At 10 he already appreciates patriotism and our Vets service. Thank you to all who have served...
