So the California Golden Bears are benching the QB who passed for over 70% with no ints in favor of the guy who passed for 25% with 1 interception. Apparently Kevin Riley 'shook off' the loss to USC better than starter Longshore. Hmmmm. Sounds like personality problems in the locker room to me. Riley threw most of his passes as if he expected his recievers to be 8 feet tall. Open players consistently had the ball just out of their reach seemingly on every drive in the second half. The Trojans played good defense again no doubt but it sure helps when your opposing QB pumps extra air in the ball before he throws it.

Iowa was very patient against PSU and was rewarded with a win over a #3 team. There was an equal number of turnovers. Penn State had a few more first downs. It was a very even game and watching it I saw the two as being very well matched. As Iowa is unranked, that should be a little scary for the Nittany Lions.

Texas Tech and Alabama had similar tasks, they had to beat a quality opponent who on paper is a rung down on the ladder in their conferences. The Red Raiders came through in a big way. They had twice as many first downs as OSU and scored two TDs in every quarter.

Alabama struggled though. After a first quarter fumble right at the goal line they settled into a groove where it seemed they were waiting for Jarrett Lee to make the last mistake, which of course he did. The Crimson Tide made too many themselves though, and if they play like that in the SEC title game Florida will have it easy.

Oklahoma, Texas and many other top 20 teams rolled to victories. Utah struggled against TCU, even getting soundly outgained 416 - 275  in the process. Their performance last week and against New Mexico has left me with a lot of doubts. Prove me wrong against BYU and in your bowl game Utes.

    My top ten this week:

    1. Alabama (by a hair width)

    2: Texas Tech

    3: Florida

    4: Texas

    5: Oklahoma

    6: USC

    7: Georgia

    8: Oklahoma State

    9: Penn State

    10: Missouri

Until preview day......    Bones

Bones, I feel I must point this out to you. The Buckeyes are nowhere to be seen in your top 10!Their D has been playing top notch for over a month now and are also putting up some big numbers with the offense as well. UGA barely gets by Kentucky, well you get my point. If you would, please explain your reasons for UGA at #7 and tOSU at a number beyond 10! I always look forward to your blogs, I just have a Bone to pick with you this time.

Hey Norka, good arguement for the Buckeyes. It all depends on the viewer's opinion of the Big 10. Both OSU and Georgia have won against teams in the top 25 twice. OSU beat Mich St. and Wisconsin. Georgia beat LSU and Vanderbilt. I like the Bulldog victories more. I can't get into a positive headspace about Ohio State until they win a truly big game again. If they had beaten Penn State I'd have no problem with them being in the top ten, even if the game left me with doubts as I have said before. I probably have Georgia ranked a bit higher than I should but I can't really see a lot of quality difference in teams from #6 down. Once I lost all faith in the non-BCS conferences entries the bottom of the top ten is a jumble. If it makes you feel any better Georgia fans have been arguing their case all season too but when you lose two games people start to put you in the also-rans category. I'm sure you'd agree there's a wide spread mistrust of the Big 10 this year. Hopefully they'll win some big bowl games and earn some respect. The Big 12 regained some love, whether it's justified or not we'll find out.

Yea, I wont go homer on you anymore..... today. I guess it starts to sound lame when I claim my also-ran is better than that also-ran. Also-ran. Thanks a lot! I believe the term 'also-ran' came from horse racing.

I'd be tempted to say Florida v.s. Texas. If those teams won their conference championship games of course. In my mind a conference championship adds one more quality win and that kills USC or a Big Ten team with one loss. Texas lost on a last second play to an undefeated team, I can't see them missing out for that. Texas beat Oklahoma by 10, and the Red Raiders would have a late season loss, USC lost to Oregon State and has struggled offensively against Pac 10 teams they should crush. An undefeated season in the Big 10 and Pac 10 should get you a ticket to the championship game without an arguement until the system is changed but if they're not going to start holding a conference championship game one loss is as good as an exit ticket in my opinion.
