For the first time since Keith Hernandez and Willie Stargell in 1979, the NL MVP will vote will result in a tie.  Why?  Because no one on a good team was great, and the only great players were on crap teams.  Frankly, there shouldn't be an NL MVP this year.

I love the Cardinals, but Pujols can't win after his rant in 2006 that Ryan Howard shouldn't have won because his team didn't make the playoffs.  And he was right.  Yes, Pujols made the Cards less crappy, but who cares?  Their useless management and lack of a middle infield will doom them to mediocrity for years.  He should have three MVP awards already in his career, but this year shouldn't be one of them.

Ryan Howard can't win with a .251 average and 199 Ks.  Seriously - Not only has no MVP position player never struck out that many times, 13 pitchers have won an MVP without ringing up 199 Ks!  And the genius writers for ESPN and SI seem to think that Chase Utley and Brad "please keep me out of the NL Central" Lidge are just as valuable.  If you can't even prove you're the most valuable on your team, how can you be the most valuable in the league?

The fact that people are even discussing Manny and CC for MVP shows that there is no true winner this year.   Given that baseball jacked up the World Series worse than ever this year by suspending a game for 3 days, I think it fitting that the MVP be a tie between a great hitter on a crap team and a juiced up all-or-nothing batting freak.

Albert was rightfully the clear winner. And I think Albert's point in 2006 was that the voting is inconsistent. Some years it is geared toward players that make the playoffs only......but other years the message is that it doesn't matter, and the best stats win.

You're right that AP should have 3 already......he should have won in 2002 and 2006, so this should be his 4th.

Sounds like this guy misses his "good 'ol days" when every power hitter in baseball was juiced and 50 homers was nothing. Guess what, 50 hrs should lead the league and be MVP worthy, unlike those jokes of the late 90's and early 2000's

What makes you think Ryan Howard isn't on steroids? How is he any different from Adam Dunn or Jose Canseco? These guys are all juiced.

I'm not saying there aren't any players in baseball on steroids, but let's face it: the total home runs hit in the MLB in 2008 was the lowest total in 15 years. I don't like Bud Selig and I think he could've done this years earlier, but it does appear to be working.
