It seems that there is a lot of buzz around Rafael Furcal. According to MLB.com, there are several teams interested and the ballpark figure being tossed around by his agent is 4 years for $40 million. The Giants and the A's are known to be interested, with a couple other teams possible (Cardinals, Braves-if Yunel Escobar is traded for Peavy?)
I cannot believe that Furcal, at age 31, coming back from back surgery is asking for this type of money and length. It seems like something close will probably happen with the amount of attention he is getting. Here is what I am projecting for Furcal based on what he has done in the past:
AVG. R H 2B 3B HR RBI K BB SB OBP
.285 100 175 29 9 10 58 75 60 30 .345
Is this, or some resemblance of this worth 4 years and $40 million a year? Furcal will be 35 at the end of the deal. I am interested to see who jumps for this. I don't see it from the A's, although Beane is tired of Crosby's lack of contributions at the position. I say he is going to end up back with the Dodgers with another 3 year deal.
