It's nice to know that our President-elect shares my view concerning a playoff in Division 1-A football. But I have to say, Mr. President-elect, that IMV...that means, "in my view", BTW...you're thinking way too small.

     8 teams won't do.

     Neither will 16.

And contrary to the head coach @ Texas Tech, Mike Leach, 64 is too damned many.

No, to truly make this work, all you need are 32 teams. Before anyone squawks at this, hear me out.

You see, my plan is a little radical. It involves a multitude of things that must happen first. For starters, abolish EVERY bowl game, period. No exceptions.

Then comes the fun part. Get rid of the whole 1-A/1-AA crap, and make it all Division 1 football. Or keep it as is, but with a twist.

Take the best 16 teams in 1-A (and yes, you do use the BCS rankings for this), and the 16 best in 1-AA (again, using the two major 1-AA polls), and have them square off over the course of the month of December. Ah, yes, the twist I was talking about??

Seed them this way: #1 in 1-A vs. #16 in 1-AA, #2 vs. #15, etc. Thus, 8 teams apiece in each of 4 regions. Playing in NFL stadiums. (But, NO domes/retractable roofs. All outdoor.) The point of this is, let's prove that Appalachian State beating Michigan last year WASN'T a fluke.

If you do this, you'll virtually guarantee a TRUE national champion in Division 1 football on New Year's night. And isn't that what we all (including sonn-to-be President Obama) really want??

Why wait until 2014, when the new contract with ESPN expires?? This can be doable BEFORE 2010, actually. If enough people put pressure on these BCS commissioner pricks, this can be done.

But you have to start now.

Again, NO ONE wishes to comment?? You'd think SOMEBODY would like to drop their two cents on this.
ANY body??

Every other blog is about this same subject. Same with the message boards. It has been debated to death and back again. There is nothing more to add, both sides and everything in between has already been proposed.

i think that elminating every single bowl is a fascinating recommendation and would go down pretty well with the conference officials, as well as television executives.

You know, at the beginning o the season when I perused the the schedules, one of the 1st things that came to mind was:

"I really wish there was MORE games between FBS and FCS teams"

Go back to your D1-AA ways and leave the real football to the big boys.
