First, let me say that I am not hating on the Yankees or Mike Mussina. I believe that Moose has been a quiet warrior for two ball clubs for the last 18 years. However, I do not believe he is of Hall of Fame caliber at all. Sorry Moose, no Cy, no plaque. I will give you some facts. All of my information comes from Baseball-Reference.
First, I know about the whole 270 wins and over a hundred more wins than losses blah, blah. Yes, he has been an above average pitcher for quite some time. He is a compiler.
He has never won the Cy Young Award. Not once. He finished second once, and had a fourth, couple fifths, and some lower or not at all on the ballot. That is only taking into the American League as well. So in any given years there were a a few to a lot of pitchers better than he. He had a bunch of very good years. He has never been phenomenal, not even for one year. Mussina often wasn't even the best pitcher on his team or in his division. Over that span of time, names like Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Curt Shilling, Johan Santana, Roy Halladay, David Cone, Jimmy Key, and Derek Lowe, even had more dominant years and/or careers.
Also, postseason stats are not there for Mussina. Does he have a ring? His lifetime postseason record is 7 wins and 8 losses. Since 2003, he was 3 wins and 6 losses.
Good pitcher, good career, nothing phenomenal. Sorry Moose, you will have to go to someone else's induction to get to the Hall of Fame.

I don't think he enough respect to get in the Hall of Fame. Nothing really jumps out at me that says he is a hall of famer.

I think that you are all nuts. He is absolutely a hall of famer. His carreer of 270 wins and 153 losses may have compiled, but you do not get that if you are not in an elite class of pitchers. He is more than a hundred games over .500, he has 2813 strikeouts and 17 consecutive seasons of double digit wins. How many other pitchers have that kind of record? I am willing to say very few, and most of if not all of them are in the hall of fame. I for one think that pitchers who have a few really good seasons but have been inconsistant are lesser pitchers than the guys who are consistantly dominant over a long stretch of time. Moose had his first 20 win season at the age of 39, his intelligence and personality in that Yankee clubhouse were unmatched. Mike Mussina is without question a Hall of Fame pitcher and there are more than a few hall of fame voters who know that too.

17 seasons of double digit wins is not dominant, like I said its good but not phenomenal. Cuban, you are right, I made a mistake. I am sorry for the misstep in the year Moose got to the Yanks. Thank you for making a point in my favor. No ring either. He can go watch Randy or Johan get inducted.

100+games over .500. He'll get in. Don't forget he pitched in the 5-man rotation era.

how about he also pitched in the steroid era as well!!! any pitcher who averages 15 wins for 18 years should be in, you talk about compilers how about Eddie Murray, he hung around to get his 3,000 hits after like 28 years and he's in. I respect Mike for NOT being a compiler, He is just 30 wins shy of 300 and 200 strikeouts shy of 3,000 so he could very easy hang on to compile those numbers and be a shoe in HOF'er

he has been very constante for all those years and has been the backbone for the yankee rotation

you make a good argument, so good that you almost convinced me. but the fact of the matter is that the supposed benchmark for a HOF is 300 wins. he could get that if he wanted to. and i actually believe that the new benchmark is 250 wins, because, after randy johnson gets his 300th, realisticly speaking, who else could get there?? nobody!! and for him to get 270, in this steroid era, playing in the AL east all his career, and in hitter friendly ball parks, to me deserves the hall. and what realy gets him over is his 7 gold gloves. and even though he hasnt won a cy, that only means that hes been really consistent in his career. if you want to compare, look at clemens' numbers, he has like 9 really phenomonal years, but he has like 8 bad or average yrs. he just has the nod over mussina because he played more seasons and he strikes out more batters. but hes never won a gold glove, walked alot of hitters thoughout his career and has pretty much the same era as moose. aside from the fact that hes going in with alot of ppl that were playing juiced, i dont know about you guys, but if i sammy, clemens big mac and moos were on the same ballot, id vote for moos hands down
