So recently Real Madrid lost at Valladolid. Perhaps that was no means an easy game but nevertheless it was a match they needed to win. They certainly needed to make it to the next round of the Copa del Rey but we all know how that turned out. Now we have a whole bunch of problems.
First, lets talk about the players. Most recently, two players that were too hurt to don the whites played for their national sides; Diarra and Pepe. I appreciate both Pepe and Diarra as players but at this point let's be blunt. Play or get out. This team has a pourous back line as it is and no matter how much of a business this is; if you sign a contract to play then you play whenever you humanly can. For example, Sergio Ramos takes a lot of flak and some of that is very much deserved. What few know is that Sergio, in the game where he was sent off with a red, had to wear a completely different sized cleat to play that game (it was Ruud's, to be precise). There are other clubs, if any of these players aren't willing to man up, then get out.
Furthermore, if you don't give a damned about the Copa del Rey then come out and say so; make it a contractual clause or something. However, when you step on the field to play then play it like it matters. Specifically, Javier Saviola looked incompetent. Yeah, his disallowed goal was a b.s. call but on the other hand no player looked so out of touch of inept; at times missing the ball like a third-grader. Personally, I would love to see Saviola up his game but it isn't going to happen just by telling Marca how much Saviola respects don Bernd. Prove it on the field, Javier.
Same goes for Higuain. This is not art class. Higuain had the chance to score and he soft-footed a ball that got cleared off the line. The man is a professional and he has a lethal ability to score - he should do that. I personally would be insulted to see Madrid front office types scurrying about looking for a replacement for the injured Ruud. Crespo? Are you kidding me? Putting a Real jersey on Crespo will not automatically take 5 years off of his life and give him a team-first attitude.
Second, let's call a spade a spade. This front office is a disaster. Mijatovic must go. He doesn't have the talent to develop a solid club. He doesn't work well with Schuster and he certainly doesn't debate Calderon. He is stale. He wasn't suited for this job to begin with and he has only gotten worse.
Third, Calderon needs to lead more than just headlines. This is the same man that handled the Robihno situation perfectly? He is angrier that Fiorentino Perez is running his mouth and getting press than he is for being fourth in the league and getting bounced out of the first round of the Copa del Rey.
Finally, Real Madrid is neither Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United. Real Madrid is run differently - there is no central ownership. To operate as a sole proprietorship (like Chelsea, Manchester United, or Liverpool) is stupid. That mode of operation is not what Madrid has ever done.
Fans don't need constant victory - they need consistency.
