So we took it on the chin last Sunday- it happens, guys- exactly as I had prophesied in this very space.  And so we turn the page, as we must, especially as the lateness of the season reminds us... that this college football season is almost in the books.  The 66-million-dollar gaff at Heinz field left some in the red, but gave us here one of our few rays o' sunshine in last weekend's grueling NFL overcard.  Other than that, my instincts- guesses, really, let's not kid ourselves- were a little off (by my calculations we went 2 and 4, not counting make-it-up-Monday).  But it's been a long week; up here in Boston it's been all Coco Crisp and how-bout-them-Bruins- a real larf riot in other words.

Fear not, though- I'm not of a mind just yet to commit my Saturday selections, but I'll be up bright and early tomorrow.  I have my sights set on another big one, guys; I mean- Apple Cup- the Apple Cup!  And let's take us a looong and careful look at the game of the week (on paper anyway); the Sooners look to burst the TT bubble in a big way, and the Man likes their chances!  Do you question Oklahama's TD plus the PAT spot in this contest?  Do I?   I don't know... I'll crunch some numbers and... well, like I said, I'll flip a coin and get back to ya in the A.M.  We'll also pay careful close attention to the B.C. situation, in regards to when and how they'll blow any chance of controlling their own destiny vis-à-vis a BCS Bowl bid...

Until then,  congrats to the Ball State Cardinals, who made it past the offensive onslaught of Dan LeFevour (my official 2008 nomination for the "Hasn't That Guy Been Playing College Football for Six Years?" Award- past winners include Chris Rix, Chris Weinke, Jason White, and Bobby Purify).  Tomorrow we'll take a peek at that Ball State schedule, and break down this magical season (one hint: out-lasting the pass-happy Chippewas from Mount Pleasant).

And good luck if you're goin' to the Window for the Fresno/San Jose scrimmage.

Can I nominate... Ian Johnson of Boise State "H . T. G. B. P. C. F. for SIX years" award. Alas, I had another to nominate but it has seriously slipped my mind...

Yeah Ian Johnson's fantastic, man- great pick. I seem to recall being stunned when Chris Leak took the field for his final season at Florida too...
