OK, let's sort this out. Think it through... Do some figurin'. Coco is out and we got a solid, regular season middle reliever back. Well, that is a plus for one of the Sox bigger needs, and we all new Jacoby is the CF for the next decade, but.....Coco really turned it on when the team needed him last year... And the gratitude we show is to send him to KC? Dang!
So, we have Paps and Ramon Ramirez (the new guy) in the bullpen. Can they give him #24 so I don't have to replace my sons T-shirts again? Delcarmen, Javy and Oki are all solid. Junichi Tazawa is supposedly leaning towards Boston, and that leaves Masterson as the swing man.... Only one lefty in the bunch, but I think we'll be in good shape. Let's see what the minors develop.
Starters.. wasn't it just the last few years that we had too much starting pitching? I hear tell Lowe and Pedro are available... Toss in Schilling, David Wells and Matt Clement while we're at it. Anyone have Oil Can's number?
OK, bad dream, bad dream... Ummm.. Lester is really good, last season he really established power and control... I think he just hit the wall in the playoffs... He is not a one year wonder... Dice-K needs to pitch only games during work days. That way, we check the Internet once in a while, get home after work, and voila.... see.... the Sox won 7-1, Dice-K had 11 Ks, gave up 2 hits and (DON'T, Don't do it to yourself, man... DON'T CHECK THE BB column!!! dammit... how do you give up 37 walks and only 1 run???) Beckett will be fine. Wakefield will be Wake. Masterson? Buchholz?(No, not yet) Bowden?
Ummm ... Theo? We need starters! Like now. Wake is 41... 42 in August.. Beckett is not a sure thing wire to wire this season... That Lugo for Dontrelle Willis deal? We haven't made that why? I know Dontrelle was brutal last season, but he could be coached up, right? Tito works his magic, gets his head on straight... And no more Lugo... We've got your back on this one.
Burnett? Lowe? Either one should be fine. Don't kill yourself getting one of 'em. Pettitte? Garland? Penny?? I'd get Pettitte just to PO the Yankers. But we need to do something.
Now, I know he is a great hitter, power, Gold Glove first baseman, and to keep him away from the Angel's would push the Halo's over the cliff, but do are we really better off with Youk at 3rd, MT at 1st and Lowell out of the clubhouse? And if Tek is gone, also? Papi would have to shoulder quite the load. Thoughts? Anyone? Salty at catcher? Tek for 1-2 more years?
And we have Bay under contract for one more year... I say sign him long term before the end of the season. Really solid player, seems to like Boston, average fielder, but as Rice and Manny have proven, anybody can learn left in Fenway... He is a stud hitter, great attitude, decent speed and we need to win at least one World Series while he's here and Manny isn't. Any bets on where Manny lands? I say he goes to the new big ball park in just to cheese off the Sox brass.

Get Pettitte to PO the Yanks....what are you smokin chief? I'd rather have Lugo on the team as bat boy than to have Dontrelle Willis. Papi would have to should the load if tek is gone? I think he could shoulder tek's .220 average quite well. But, maybe while Tito works his magic on Willis he could also get Ortiz to hit to left field. Can you really see Manny in NY where they might actually ask something from him and not just be satisfied with what he gives them when he feels like giving it? He'll stay in the NL to beat up on the pitching is my guess. I'd hate to see Tek gone but I just can't watch him as he's walking back to the bench in the middle of striking out anymore. Get the Salti kid and Tek for a year or two and pay him as player-coach.

Just read that their maybe some interest in/from Pettitte getting back with the Dodgers. Yeah, why would you take a chance on Dontrelle... Let's see, he is 26 years old, and between 2005-06 he was 34-22 on a crappy hitting Marlin's team, with a 3.25 era, 1.27 WHIP and 330 Ks. God knows that isn't someone you would want to take a chance on. If Tex signs with the Sox and CC with the Angels, the Yankees will have to sign Manny. It looks like Texas wants Masterson or Bowden for Salti. Would you make that deal?

I still don't see the Yankmees signing Manny under any circumstances. Maybe as DH since they don't have Giambi. I would give Texas Clay Buccholz and thats it. Theres no way in hell we should part with Masterson and they say that Bowden is doing really well in the minors. I thought I read that Salty was a free agent after this year. Plus, with other teams marketing their catchers we don't need to give up on Mast or Bowden. What do you think?

Theo has said the Clay B is off limits. I don't think it is about giving up on the other two, just a matter of having to give quality to get what the Sox need. And now everyone looks at the Red Sox as a deep pocket team, and expects them to over pay or take up a big part of a Manny/Lugo salary to get rid of an unwanted player. I think the Bronx **** are the only team that Manny will sign with (besides the Angels.) Boras wants top dollar, especially after opting out of what would have been 2 $20 million dollar years with the Sox. And Manny is from NY. So, it's either there or in Los Anaheim. Arte loves latin players, and Manny likes So Cal. Looks like Theo is intent on stocking the bullpen. They just got another righty from Texas, plus Tazawa. I just don't know about the whole Lowell and Youk moving.... I think Tex would be great, but........ I don't see Youk as a long term 3B...

I think it was good on both ends of the spectrum that Coco went to the Royals. He'll get more playing time, which he truly deserves, and he will bring his experience to the Royals, while the Red Sox get a star added to their bullpen.
I'd love to bring Lowe back to the Sox, if not, we could even move Masterson up, or have Buchholz and Bowden vie for it during Spring Training.
The thing about Dice-K made me LOL, he gives you a heart attack when he pitches doesn't he?
I say the Sox go after a starter rather than Tex. I think that Lowell will be able to rehab, and perform well next season. He was the '07 World Series MVP after all. And definitely re-sign Tek to a two-year deal. He is the heart and soul of the Red Sox organization. I've compared him to Carlton Fisk on my MLBlog, and I will post that here tomorrow.

Abreu and Pettitte are free agents. Abreu would be an outstanding addition to the outfield. Great defensive player, great hitter and could be insurance against Drew going down or Jacoby struggling. And Jacoby could learn about being a professional hitter from him. And now we won't have to give the **** any draft picks. Sign him!
